As a casual user who tried the Windows beta, I'd also prefer to see
most paths in the UNIX format. XEmacs can convert these to /s to \s
in the lower level calls if needed.
Windows file explorer can handle '/', so cutting and pasting such
paths poses no problem.
Automatically converting /s to \s the paths causes problems for my
korn or tshell when I cut the path for a file from the minibuffer and
paste it to the shell. (The reverse could be true for Windows shells,
so maybe the style should be configurable).
The other problem with having \s in the path is that they show up as
\\ in lisp paths, such as load-path. I can not cut and paste these
either, without editing every \\ in the path.
