Compilation of xemacs under Darwin-powerpc-OS 10 fails

I tried to compile xemacs on a Macintosh Powerbook running Os 10.1.3 with Darwin 1.4 -something and XFree 4.0.2 installed. Everything compiled fine, but cinfigure could not find a machnie description for the operating system. Does one exist? I am running Gnu emacs 21.1 on the machine, which came with the Darwin distro.
