If you do switch between stable and beta you are probably aware of
what you are doing. You would also like to have almost the same stuff
in both version so having two copies will be a maintenance burden. I
think you are better of with managing the differences with using
"emacs-version>=" within the init files instead.
Alternatively, a directory search list containing a series of directories that
are checked for INIT files could help this problem. the idea would be to put
beta specific files in a beta specific directory and they are used in preference
to the standard initialization files of the same name. yes there are a couple
of issues with initialization and building the right search list when you start
up the Beta versus the stable instances of XEmacs but that's not a tough issue.
It's only annoying.
