What I don't understand is why I *don't* see the problem. To test it I did: make distclean, autoloads, bindist saved the last compilation buffer to a file applied your patch make distclean, autoloads, bindist saved the last compilation buffer to another file ran ediff on the two saved compilation outputs The result was 25 differences between the two. That's the good news. The bad news is that *all* of the 25 differences had zero effect on the build.
