*WARNING* Many versions of Motif are buggy, requiring workarounds. You are likely to experience slow redisplay. You may need to install vendor patches to Motif. See PROBLEMS for more information. We are not kidding. PROBLEMS doesn't come close to having an exhaustive list. Please try ./configure --with-dialogs=athena. You need to have an Athena-compatible library installed, and if it's not the one distributed with X, you'll need to specify --with-athena=TYPE where TYPE can be xaw, 3d, or a few other rarer possibilities (see ./configure --usage). The Hannibal Lector GNU ld is now auto-detected, and except for a few rare and ancient Red Hat and SuSE systems the --ldflags option will do nothing for you except _increase_ startup time. If you want to turn off the portable dumper feature, do so with --pdump=no.
