discussed this with Paul Kinnucan? If he knows about this and is ok

Some comments about the sync:
Please update xemacs-packages/jde/ChangeLog. At the very least, the
MAINTAINER change and a note about the sync must be there.
xemacs-packages/jde/ReleaseNotes.txt should be synced too, the upstream
package has it in lisp/ReleaseNotes.txt. It would be a good idea also
put it to Makefile's EXTRA_SOURCES.
jde-compat.elc is not listed in ELCS, on purpose? I think it should be.

was lost in the sync. Upstream forward wouldn't hurt.
This is not actually related to the sync, but I noticed that unlike all
other packages, jde doesn't list all provided stuff in package-info.in
(provides). Maybe it should?
