Newbie programming question

Hello all, I've been using (X)Emacs for a number of years (number being about four. Now I'm looking at how to write a mode for a task I'd like to do. I have most of the functionality I want (ie the logic) allready worked on on the command line with a Python script, so I know much of it can be done. Now I'm at the point where I'm trying to map the conceptual framework from Python to Xemacs elisp. I've gotten the O'Reilly book _Writing GNU Emacs Extensions_. I also got a LISP book (since I haven't programmed in LISP at all in a long time, and when I did, it was only for a class). At this point, I'm looking for some kind of reference book for functions and variables. Yes, I can use appropos, but a book is nice too, as it would give practical examples (I'd hope). I know this mailing list isn't the appropriate place for this, but I didn't see an xemacs-users list, and a person who was on this list for a long time recommended it. So can anyone recommend such a book or set of docuenments other than appros help searching. - Serge Wroclawski
