This bug occurs with 21.4.22 and 21.5-b28
XEmacs 21.4 (patch 22) "Instant Classic" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of

I renamed my ~/.xemacs directory to get rid of my initialization files.
When I try to "ediff" two empty buffers "tmp01" and "tmp02", I get an error:

I found that this is due to ediff-coding-system-for-write:

In ediff-make-temp-file, coding-system-for-write is locally set to
ediff-coding-system-for-write.
I could get rid of the bug and make ediff run by setting
ediff-coding-system-for-write
to something else than emacs-internal, for example raw-text
I hope you can fix this bug.

custom.el is usually loaded by default. You could step through
`load-user-init-file' to see why that doesn't happen for you.

I've made a couple of small security-related changes to the tracker:
1. Closed issue 35.
Issues with Severity = security are now only visible to users with
the Reviewer or Admin roles. Neither the reporter of the issue
nor users doing triage are exceptions: if you set the Severity to
security and save, you will be told you don't have permission to
view the bug. It also will not appear in summary listings
(including search output).
I don't plan to fix the issue with triage ever; you just will have
to remember to do all the work on an issue that you plan to do
before setting its Severity to security.
I am of two minds as to whether it makes sense to make exceptions
for the reporter. In general I think such discussion should take
place in private email, anyway. If you think that there's a
strong case for allowing the reporter to view his own security
bugs, please create an issue and explain. Assign it to me.
2. Closed issue 499.
The user list used to expose mildly sensitive data to the world,
including phone numbers and email addresses. Current policy is
that the user list presents only Username, Realname, and
Organization, unless your User has the Admin or Reviewer roles.
You can still get a user's principal email address by going to the
User page, but not the alternate addresses.
N.B. Per the new security policy, both the above issues are
restricted. Comments on the above policies welcome.
Also, if you have other requests to make regarding the tracker, now
might be a good time because I'm getting acquainted with the Python
code and the templating language again.

Stack overflow: byte code stack underflow
whenever I type C-x C-f or F1 h or do almost anything. Evaluating (load
"help.el") or even (load "help.elc") in *scratch* makes XEmacs usable again.

Dear Bug Team!
The XEmacs keyboard mapping doesn't work the same way as in any other
application. The tested setups are
Model: Generic 104-key PC
Layout: USA International (AltGr dead keys)
One of the two ways to enter accented and other international
characters works fine in all applications that I regularly use,
including XEmacs: Accented and other characters such as µ can be
entered by pressing and holding the right Alt key keycode 108 (keysym
0xfe03, ISO_Level3_Shift) while entering an additional character:
[AltR-m] (µ), [AltR-q] (ä), [AltR-y] (ü), etc.
An alternative way to enter accented and other international
characters would be through "dead keys". With the keyboard layout "USA
International (AltGr dead keys)" (with AltGr mapped to the right Alt
key), an example of entering e.g. German Umlauts would be [AltR-" a]
(ä), [AltR-" o] (ö), [AltR-6 u] û. This does not work with XEmacs. It
works in all other applications that I use regularly, including some
plain X tools, such as xterm.

using XEmacs under X, when i try to read a particular post Xemacs dies
abruptly --- at the moment i have no core dump, i think i can provide

xemacs -nw can read the same post without any problem

Dear Bug Team!
I am a bit new to xemacs (uses emacs normally). Have had some
problems with global-set-key stuff. Mostly have been resolved
but this one still exists and is very painful since the key
binding is struck in my head after many years...:
(global-set-key "\C-c\C-h" 'goto-line)
When testing if the key have been defined with ctrl+h+k
it says 'goto-line' which is as it should be.
Trying to use ctrl+c+g end abrubtly with 'Quit'.
I guess this is due to the fact that the ctrl+g is 'quit/stop
function' (which is also is in emacs).
The error is that ctrl+g should not stop/quit the 'goto line'
function before it has written 'goto line:' in the status line.
Every test to map something else with an ending 'g' fails in the same
way:
(global-set-key [\C-t\C-g] 'replace-regexp)
At least to me this seems to be a bug (at least if trying to
be compatible/similiar to emacs).

Okay, so I did it. Here's what got left behind after "make distclean"
that a CVS checkout didn't create in the first place:
Local.rules
macro.list
Of course I made both of those files myself. On the other hand,
here's what the CVS checkout gave me that got erased by "make
distclean":
xemacs-packages/auctex/CHANGES
xemacs-packages/auctex/README
I've already expressed my opinion that those two files should not be in CVS.

[BUG] can't compile semantic

Hi,
I've just cvs up'ed my whole package tree, and I can't compile semantic
anymore. I get a stack trace ending with:

change the format of vc-version-other-window

Another thing which drives me crazy with the new vc pkg (1.45 vs 1.4.1)
is the following:
The function vc-version-other-window of the file foo which under version
control generates and opens a file called say.
foo.~1.2~
I don't like this format and prefer much more
foo-rev-1.2
Now in 1.41 this was relatively easy:
