Hi.
Every time I open a new planner page in XEmacs beta, I get a
warning/backtrace, and the buffer is not fontified. Forcing the buffer
to be re-fontified works though. It seems to be an XEmacs beta
specific problem, since It worked under XEmacs 21.4.17 I was using
before.
I'm using XEmacs 21.5 from CVS on an Ubuntu dapper system.

I missed updates to this mail thread and just arrived at the same
solution as Robert.
I have also noticed that `forward-line' has this fairly confusing bit
in its docstring:
Returns the count of lines left to move. If moving forward,
that is COUNT - number of lines moved; if backward, COUNT + number moved.
With positive COUNT, a non-empty line at the end counts as one line
successfully moved (for the return value).
So, relying on forward-word return value would make the code harder to
read.

I'm not sure what's going on, but my guess is that the `find' command
that generates "HTML_FILES" is broken. Sorry, I don't have time to
get it right. "GENERATED_HTML_FILES" seems to be OK in light testing,
though, so substituting
validate-time-stamp: $(GENERATED_HTML_FILES)
for
validate-time-stamp: $(HTML_FILES)
seems to do the right thing, unless you have edited a non-generated
HTML file directly. Probably only Adrian has need to do that, though.

Have calendar sync from GNU Emacs in progress

Redisplay problems with the NEW_GC algorithms

I am running Gnus (from CVS) with native win32 21.5b26 XEmacs.
I turned USE_KKCC and NEW_GC on.
I have strange redisplay problems. Gnus by itself seems to run ok, but :
- when I switch from the Article buffer (configuration with 4 windows in
the frame) to the Group buffer (only one window in the frame), the
scrollbars do not disappear. I have been able to reproduce this by :
* visiting a file
* splitting it both horizontally and vertically (3 windows in
the frame)
* M-x delete-other-windows
It happens randomly, but scrollbars do not always disappear.
- the minibuffer is sometimes 2 lines high and in fact the main window
seems to be shifted up.
Anybody can reproduce this ? Or is it only me ?
I have recompiled with USE_KKCC=0 and NEW_GC=0 and up to now, I don't
see the same effects.

Yes, darn it. What gcc are you using? I'm running Fedora Core 5, and
have gcc-4.1.0-3 from that distribution. If I dump debug information
from the compiled XEmacs binary with either "readelf -w" or "objdump -W"
and then grep for Lisp_Type_Char, all I see are uses. There is no
definition in there. This is using the portable dumper. The default
debug format for both platforms I use (i386 and x86_64, big difference
hey?) is DWARF-2, which is supposed to be the most expressive. I even
habitually compile with -g3 to pick up macro definitions, and I still
don't get the Lisp_Type_Char debug info.
If I compile with "-gstabs+", then "objdump -G" shows me this:

And sure enough, now pobj works. Like I said, I'm using the portable
dumper, but I'm also using mc-alloc, so I get a separate dump file.
That means that my xemacs executable is the one produced by gcc, not one
we fiddled with, right? If so, this can only be a gcc bug.
Also notice the difference in size between the two executables. The
DWARF-2 version weighs in at 46,484,008 bytes for this morning's build,
while the stabs version is 9,617,276 bytes. Compiling with
-feliminate-dwarf2-dups would probably help, at some compile or link
time cost. On the other hand, I also did not use
-feliminate-unused-debug-symbols on the stabs build.
I see gcc 4.1.1 came out yesterday. I probably won't have time to try
it myself, but we should see if the problem persists with that version.
If so, it's time to ask for help from the fine gcc development team.

Please use xemacs-beta instead, since xemacs-nt is not followed my many.
Path searching machinery has changed.
I use
set EMACSLATEPACKAGES=c:\Program Files\XEmacs
in my .bat file for starting XEmacs (I use a .bat file to set up an ssh-agent-ized XEmacs correctly.)

in the code that generates the paragraph below in your release
announcements.
I have not found that string anywhere under the xemacs-builds CVS module.

To make it straightforward to access certain versions of the code, we have
a standard tagging policy. To update to release 21.5.27, use the update
flag "-r r21-5-27". To update to the current release without referring to
it specifically, use the flag "-r r21-5-current-beta". To update to the
latest commits in CVS, use the flag "-A". Then rebuild XEmacs.

Dear Bug Team!
Whenever I try to use ispell, I get this message:
"Searching for program: No such file or directory, ispell".
I have the following files on my computer:
inspell.info C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xmacs-packages\info
MANIFEST.ispell C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xmacs-packages\pkginfo
ispell.el C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xmacs-packages\lisp\ispell
ispell.elc C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xmacs-packages\lisp\ispell
ispell.texi C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xmacs-packages\man\ispell
I put the following lines in my .init.el, but did not work:
(add-to-list 'exec-path "C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages")
(setq load-path (cons "C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages" load-path))
I also tried this:
(add-to-list 'exec-path "C:\Program Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages\lisp")

Each time, I try, I get the same message. Any idea what's wrong?
Also when I tried to send this mail using xemacs, I get this message:
