[Bug: 21.4.16] Crash with preview-latex 19 years, 2 months

Dear Bug Team! loading preview-latex (with the button "preview" in the toolbar) results in a crash. The follwing file reproduces the error for me by 1. starting /usr/bin/xemacs test.tex 2. click "preview" 3. xemacs crashes <begin test.tex> \documentclass[a4paper,11pt]{article} %TITLE \title{Test} \author{Test} \date{\today} \begin{document} \maketitle \section{First Section} \label{sec:first} Here is some text an a formula $a + b = c$. \end{document} <end test.tex> I hope, the information below helps. I don't think this bug appeared with an earlier version (2004.05.17-1) of the debian package xemacs21-basesupport, but I'm not sure and I can't check the package being unavailable. [Bug: 21.4.13] Crashing firefox hangs xemacs 19 years, 2 months

At work, I run xemacs across the WAN over ssh and firefox locally (I believe, but am not sure, that I don't see this on local xemacsen). Every couple of days, firefox segfaults and this leaves all of my xemacsen off in never-neverland. They sometimes come back hours (really!) later although most of the time I don't have the patience to let them spin that long, so I don't know if they all come back eventually. Problems with text-mode paragraph movement 19 years, 2 months

XEmacs 21.5.b18 (+CVS20050203) The forward-paragraph and backward-paragraph commands now fail with the error Invalid byte code: variable reference to constant symbol, nil. This just began since the recent mega patch that included paragraph.el Other motion commands do seem to work and the companion sexp movements still work. I know how to get debug in a function I have displayed, but how do I debug a funtion that only works in a non-lisp (text-mode) buffer? -- rdr

is the shy groups problem solved in 21.4.17? Other bugs? 19 years, 2 months

Hello I would like to clarify the issues on the shy-groups bug (finally it was because of this bug, that 21.4.16 got withdrawn). - it seems that I (using 21.4.16 _no Mule_) did not suffer this bug in any noticeable way: gnus auctex x-symbol behaved in the same way as they did in 21.4.15. So I asked for a way to test the bug. So the first question I would like to ask: How can one test the shy groups bug??????? - the next issue concerns the fortification problem. Already Farbrice is in discussion with the auctex development team and I hope this issue can be solved. I would therefore recommend a phase of debugging and _testing_ for the 21.4.17 release. I have already seen that Ben is going to submit quite some changes in various packages. May be it would be better to resolve this 2 issues before continuing with the merge of those changes. - Finally there is a bug or better say hang of xemacs together with x-symbol I have noted ever since I started to use the 21.4.x series. Unfortunately Christoph Wedler has not done anything on his package since almost a year. The issue concerns the use of either lazy-shot vs lazy-lock. The first one is a C implementation the second one a lisp implementation. My experience is that lazy-shot works neither, but let Xemacs freeze while lazy-lock is more stable. Can anybody please comment on the use of these packages? Which is preferable. I suggest some testing would be bad. Uwe Brauer

Some oddies in the auctex (11.55) installation 19 years, 2 months

Hello This is an issue which concerns both the auctex developement team and the xemacs team, hence my double posting. The default behaviour for a auctex installation using xemacs that is ./configure --with-xemacs=/usr/bin/xemacs has the result, that the files, which are generated by the make process, will be installed in infodir = ${packagedir}/info lispdir = ${packagedir}/lisp packagedir = /usr/share/xemacs21/xemacs-packages auctexdir= ${lispdir}/auctex I consider such a choice as *bad*. First it will need root privileges, second it will install in the directory where the _official_ xemacs pkg sits. So I suggest that the default value are: either the pkg directory is packagedir = /usr/share/xemacs21/site-packages Which still would need root privileges or the value is packagedir = ~/.xemacs/xemacs-packages. It is true that the INSTALLATION file says something about how to set the packagedir, that is to run ./configure --with-xemacs=/usr/bin/xemacs --with-packagedir=/DIR but in any case, the *default* behaviour should not be the one mention above. I suggest if ./configure --with-xemacs=/usr/bin/xemacs is executed, a message pops up saying, "you did not specify neither the packagedir nor the lispdir option". Besides the package generated this way *does not* include a MANIFEST file, so uninstall could be a little tricky, recall that the xemacs are installed according to the structure /lisp/packagename /man/packagename But not /packename/lisp /packename/man In the letter deleting the packagename directory would delete the installed files, in the former you have to go directory by directory. So that is where a MANIFEST file comes in handy (posted a while ago I simple function to delete the content of a 3rd party package by reading the MANIFEST file) I would appreciate any comments of the Xemacs development team on this issue.
