I've identified what is probably the problem module, and have a fix in
place to be live-tested (it passes the bench tests, we'll see what

Currently the fix is only in place for XEmacs Beta; I'll discuss with
the Tux admins whether it's useful to do this for all Tux lists
later. We may as well confirm (as well as possible) that it fixes the
problem.
The fix will be implemented immediately following this message. (Ie,
this is the last message before I change the Mailman pipeline for
XEmacs Beta.) I expect there to be no changes except that Cc
stripping should no longer occur. If something should go wrong, there
may be a delay up to 18 hours before I fix it; I'll check as I can,
but it's time to go home, and eventually to sleep, now. :-)

when attempting to update packages in my just installed xemacs from
the Mandrake 10.1 distribution I systematically get the message in the
subject line, and the update fails. I tried other xemacs update sites,
e.g., in Denmark, with the same outcome.

The smoketest still fail for some configurations on texinfo-formating
in mew. The error message is:

By forcing a load of the missing function by adding "-l regexp-opt" in
XEmacs.rules to FORMAT_INFO_USING_XEMACS_NO_SAVE_ARGS I manage to
build the info pages.
The odd thing though is that I can build the info pages on a Fedora
and on a Gentoo box using the same recent CVS checkout of the
packages. The XEmacs binaries in use are of course not exactly the
same since they are built, by me, for each machine.
Ideas what might be going on here are appreciated!?

Hello. We have had running in XEmacs for two years or more some routines I
wrote to cleanly handle byte-compilation warnings. The problem was that
many byte-compilation warnings were unavoidable when doing legitimate
things. I came up with a clean solution to this problem and it has worked
very well; all of the XEmacs core elisp code is now completely warning-free.
I propose that this be incorporated into GNU Emacs as well. If agreed, I
will sign papers and do whatever else is needed. I am the only author of
this code.
I'm attaching the doc strings. I would post the code itself but I gather
rms does not want GNU Emacs developers to see non-kosher [i.e. not
copyright-assigned] XEmacs code. If I'm wrong please let me know and I'll
post the sources.

What do people think of the idea of enabling this variable by default?
To me it is entirely in the spirit of default settings being safer; if
people want to shoot themselves in the foot, they can do it, but they have
to specifically request such shooting :)

Using a fresh CVS checkout of XEmacs trunk the following snippet
returns "1" when evaluated whereas it returns "5" in GNU Emacs 21.3,
CVS GNU Emacs and XEmacs 21.4.15.

If `set-syntax-table' is used instead of `with-syntax-table', CVS
XEmacs returns "5" as well, so I suppose that there is a problem in
`with-syntax-table' or a function called by it.
