A package I want to port to XEmacs uses features of hideshow.el that
have been added since the ancient version we now ship. I took a look at
the latest version. With a few minor modifications, I got it working
pretty well. I think. Would a few of you mind trying it out? I'll
attach it to this message.
Things to work out:
(1) The new hideshow.el uses overlays. That would mean yet another
dependency in the packages on fsf-compat. Is that okay, or do we
need to port it to use extents instead?
(2) The new hideshow.el binds inhibit-point-motion-hooks, which we don't
support. I don't yet understand this variable's use in Emacs well
enough to know whether any action is needed, or if we can just
ignore the variable.

"xemacs -t `tty`" on Fedora fails to open the tty.
Strace (strace -f -o /tmp/tr-xemacs xemacs -t `tty`)
stops/ hangs when I would expect an open of the pty

So should we go on a witch hunt for instances of iso-latin-1? I see one
instance in the current sources, in lisp/term/linux.el. The comment
right above it says it doesn't matter, but we ought to use the right
symbol anyway, no?
In the packages, these files contain instances that might need to be

can#t load refill.el in xemacs

Hello,
I'm trying to use refill-mode in xemacs21 (xemacs-21.4.14-mule, from
the debian package). I've tried a bunch of different versions from
the mode's CVS (you can get a representative version at
http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/*checkout*/emacs/emacs/lisp/textm...).
All of them work fine with FSF Emacs (which I don't use, ubt do
have lying around); none of them will load properly with Xemacs. The
*backtrace* buffer resulting from running M-x eval-current-buffer from
inside the refill.el buffer is:

Alas, I'm too incompetent to understand this. Can you guys make sense
of it? Does this reflect a bug in Xemacs, or a design decision of some
kind that refill-mode doesn't take into account? I see from the
archives that there have been issues around refill.el in the past, but
the net suggests that the problems ought to have been fixed. Am I
missing something?
