[PATCH] Berkeley DB 4 support for 21.5 21 years, 5 months

I recently upgraded to SleepyCats DB 4 and XEmacs from CVS and database.c stopped compiling. I traced it back to an additional parameter being added in SleepyCat 4 release in the DB->open . int DB->open(DB *db, DB_TXN *txnid, const char *file, const char *database, DBTYPE type, u_int32_t flags, int mode); Attached is a patch adding support for DB 4. I haven't actually used it against a DB database, so it might break elsewhere, but it should work fine. Thanks, Nelson -- Nelson Ferreira

A couple of problems with new module code. 21 years, 5 months

Hi Jerry! I just built XEmacs with your new module code (nice work, BTW) and noticed a couple of problems: - Autoloads are built for *everything* in ./modules unconditionally. If I don't have/build/install ldap, I don't want the ldap autoloads in ./modules/auto-autoloads.el. We should only build autoloads for those modules that we are actually going to build and install. - With '--error-checking=all' I got an undefined symbol error while trying to connect to a PostgreSQL database... "undefined symbol: error_check_pgconn" Can you take care of these, Jerry, or would you like me to? Anyway, XEmacs loses its last X device and goes into a spin in that CONSOLE_DEVICE_LOOP. A real session manager would shut down XEmacs (the user has logged out of the session that XEmacs was started in, and XEmacs is a foreground app there). xdm and xsm both do this. I believe (but haven't checked) that the patch "works" because after finding no connections the code falls through to a place where XEmacs realizes it has no live consoles and exits. I don't consider it a bug in Xt; note that XtAppPending is a building block for event loops, not an event loop, so I think it's our responsibility to check for live dpys. (I hate it, but the "caller provides correct input or I crash" policy is consistent throughout X11.) I think in the long run what we want to do is make XEmacs a server process, with display clients. (Isn't it your comment that "maybe we can finally move the first frame into startup.el"? Whoever wrote that inspired this wacky idea.) Footnotes: [1] At least I have come to. Now let's just try to get rid of those weird "Loading image-mode..." messages on console (do you get them, BTW?), and we're ready to replace the current image-mode with this one.
