multiple Exposure events not handled in batch 21 years, 6 months

I run many xemacsen through ssh. Some of the machines I run remote xemacsen on are networkologically far away -- on the other side of both a T1 and a DSL. X traffic tunnelled through ssh this way is understandably slow, but still tolerable. Except when XEmacs is processing exposure events. Then it's a nightmare. Here's what happens: - Have an XEmacs window with the left 50% of the window occluded by some higher window. - Drag that other window away to the left. - The XEmacs window is fully visible on the screen ~2 seconds later. - XEmacs repaints column 39, and flickers a few times. - XEmacs repaints column 38, and flickers a few times. - XEmacs repaints column 37, and flickers a few times. ... - 20 seconds later, I can type at XEmacs again. So clearly there's some bad logic in the event processing here. At the end of second two, XEmacs has dozens of Expose events on its queue. It is processing each of them in turn, probably with an XSync after each, instead of reading them all, then doing one batch refresh that paints all damaged areas. This is my number one most irritating XEmacs bug. I used to (mostly) work around this by turning off OpaqueMove in my window manager, but apparently the version of Sawfish that ships with Red Hat 8 has removed the option to have non-opaque moves, so it just got a lot more irritating. Check out http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/dll.html. This will build a DLL with an import library for the DLL. Use the import library in the link stream of any other DLL or EXE that references things in this DLL. when ssh dies, xemacs doesn't 21 years, 6 months

This problem has existed for quite some time, and exists in both 21.1p14 and 21.4p8. I run a lot of remote xemacsen via ssh (ssh tunnelling X: "ssh -n host xemacs &".) When the displaying machine reboots, or X dies, or the network goes away, the remote xemacs very often (but not always) stays running, consuming lots of cpu. I experience problems with the `electric pipe' in my newest xemacs (obtained with RedHat Linux 8.0) and sml-mode packages (downloaded from auk.dk). When I type fun fact 0 = 1 followed by M-| I expect to get fun fact 0 = 1 | fact (which I usually do in the old xemacs ver 21.1 patch 14 on sparc sun solaris 2.7) However, I just get fun fact 0 = 1 | i.e., the name of the function is not repeated. The same happens in xemacs 21.4 patch 9 "informed management" (obtained with Mandrake Linux 9.0), which is installed on of my other computers Therefore, I think the problem is with the sml-mode package. Let me know if I have to inform the sml-mode developers (which email address should I use?)
