I've managed to use the XEmacs tree to shake out a compiler bug or 3.
To nobody's great astonishment (I hope), the RedHat 'gcc-3.1-0.18'
chokes on the XEmacs tree if you use the bleeding-edge '-fssa' flags.
Bug reports have been filed with RedHat (hopefully to get pushed upstream
to the gcc crew). Bugzilla 59084 and 59087, if anybody cares.

The following code wraps an extent around some text and flags it like
so:

which is not what I would expect. Anybody know what's going on?

The original example used overlays, see

cperl-mode hijacks cc-mode's `c-fill-paragraph' (M-q)

Dear Bug Team!
After visiting a Perl file (triggering cperl-mode), I can no longer
fill paragraphs in any C++ mode (or cc-mode) buffers. In cc-mode the
key sequence M-q runs `c-fill-paragraph'. This function works fine
until cperl-mode gets loaded. After cperl-mode is active
c-fill-paragraph fails with a message like:
Args out of range: #<buffer "assertions.hh">, 0, 2
Here is a typical back-trace:

The only workaround I've found is to execute
(setq fill-paragraph-function nil)
This seems to restore proper behavior to `c-fill-paragraph.'
cc-mode and cperl-mode should be able to coexist. That is, I should be
able to edit both Perl files and C++ files in the same session without
losing functionality in either. cperl-mode is being too aggressive
here, or making global changes that should only be relevant to buffers
actually in cperl-mode.

It looks like you're right - ediff now expects gutter support.
Unfortunately, the package system does not have a sophisticated
requirements capability built in.
I or someone else on the xemacs-beta list will have a look at this
soon, but for the time being, you can workaround the problem by not
using a separate frame for the ediff-control buffer:

Could you please comment why output from CVS sometimes uses 73
character =-separator lines while sometimes only 67 of them are used?

if you have the time.
Currently pcl-cvs expects 67 and reports parser errors otherwise.
A possible fix for pcvs-parse.el would be to change
(cvs-match
"===================================================================$")
to

"[=]\{67,\}$")
but understanding what's going first is always a good idea :-)

pcl-cvs attempts to commit the wrong file

Dear Bug Team!
If my "*cvs*" buffer lists lets say three modified files (file1, file2
and file3) in a directory and I try to commit for example the second
(file1) one I press "c" on top of the entry. A "*cvs-commit*" buffer
comes up where I can enter my log message. Fine! If I reenter the
"*cvs*" buffer and move point to a different file, go back to the
"*cvs-commit*" buffer and press C-c to check in my modifications,
pcl-cvs asks me whether it should really commit the file identified by
points position in the "*cvs*" buffer. E.g. I if moved up point from
"file2" to "file1" pcl-cvs asks whether I'd like to commit "file1". I
think pcl-cvs commit should remind the name of the file for which it
opened the commit buffer (file2 in my example).

Repeated below is the crash report I filed earlier today, along
with the LISP traceback, which may be of some use... I notice
that I get the same crash with xemacs 21.1.12, 21.4.3, and 21.4.5.
I notice that I DON'T get the crash if I mis-name the directory
/usr/local/lib/xemacs-21.x.x.

xemacs (21.4.5) seems to reliably crash when reading vm mail
with too-long a recipient list. This is on a Mac G4 running
OS 10.1.2.

Fatal error (11).
Unfortunately the crash produces a segmentation fault but no CORE
file, so I cannot provide a backtrace. It doesn't seem to matter
whether the characters are in the "To" field or the "CC" field.
The incoming mail file that produces a crash has something like
4175 characters in the To: field. Cutting that number down to
4172 results in no crash. Replacing the three deleted characters
with anything else on the keyboard restores the crash.
