Slow and wacky menus. 22 years, 9 months

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.5 (beta1) "anise" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.8) of Fri Jun 22 2001 on sibelius configured using `configure --prefix=/s/chopin/d/proj/meps/common/' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: The pull down menus are randomly slow and flaky. This is not a normal pause like that which occurs under the options menu as packages are loaded or fonts pulled from the xserver. Examples of flakiness include: * Selecting the Buffers menu and not being able to select past about the midpoint. * Improper redrawing of the text in first cell of a drop down menu, in this case moving the mouse causes the first menu entry to become corrupted with garbage. * Selections do not always take, but reselections may work. * General unresponsiveness, the menu may not acknowledge a click or it may not go away after loss of focus. I am afraid that to date these problems are 100% intermittent and unreproducible, however, after a day of use something will be bound to have gone wrong. Slow clipboard performance in 21.1.14 22 years, 9 months

When I use the clipboard for cut or copy operations across a network link, the performance is very poor. By "across a network", I mean running xemacs with the DISPLAY set to a remote system. I have noticed a very large number of packets for these operations. The slowness is significant on even fast links. Even a simple C-k to delete a line takes an inordinate amount of time. It is extremely annoying! Any idea what is causing this? I don't recall noticing it on older releases, but I don't do it a lot as I usually use the tpu-edt emulation which has its own commands to perform similar operations and the delays do not show up for them. [PATCH] "ascii_character" property for Cyrillic keysyms (and others too) is changed unexpectedly 22 years, 9 months

My native language is Russian and I use ru-keys.el[1] to assign appropriate values to "ascii_character" property of Cyrillic_XXX keysyms. I want to input Cyrillic chars in KOI8-R codepage, and ru-keys.el sets ascii_character properties this way. However, I found out that since 21.4.3 my keyboard becomes garbled each time MappingModifier event occurs. After this event Cyrillic_XXX keysyms produce characters which correspond not to "KOI8-R" codepage, but to "ISO-8859-5" one. Exploration of event-Xt.c led me to function "maybe_define_x_key_as_self_inserting_character" which is called from "x_has_keysym", which in turn is called from "x_reset_key_mapping", which is called each time Mapping* event occurs. This function assigns self-insert command to keysym if it is not defined in (current-global-map), but changes "ascii_character" property for that keysym notwithstanding that keysym has some command bound to it and it ascii_character property changed. This is desired behavoir during start-up, but after that it causes harm to users. Funky faces. 22 years, 9 months

I've got an interesting problem with faces. I only noticed it the other day when I 'C-x 5 2' (I normally do _everything_ in the one frame). Using Gnus as an example, I have, in one of my setup files: ,---- | (make-face 'gnus-group-mail-3-face) | (set-face-foreground 'gnus-group-mail-3-face "Yellow") `---- In the first frame, 'gnus-group-mail-3-face' is yellow, which is what I'd expect. However in a different frame, it is aqua-marine. Why? I'd still expect yellow. I had a look at 'M-x customize-face RET gnus-group-mail-3-face RET' in each frame. This is where it starts to get really funky. Give these screen shots a 2nd and 3rd look, and you'll see what I mean.
