When I tried running XEmacs, here is what happened, Attempt #1: hung without opening initial window #2: hung before displaying splash screen #3: ran for 20mins(?) before hanging #4: under gdb - opened initial window and then I started getting error messages in the console window and the XEmacs was hung. The console output is at the end of this message. The errors appeared one every minute or so. (while t) - C-g works - C-Sh-g works (let ((inhibit-quit t)) (while t)) - C-g doesn't works - C-Sh-g works as expected. Excellent! Two additional things: First, I've started noticing the dreaded "random lockups" since the change to set BROKEN_SIGIO. I will let you know if I continue to observe them with the most recent set of changes. Second, I had to make a few changes to get event-msw.c to compile under cygwin. I will post these to xemacs-patches separately.

buffer tab refresh problem 22 years, 10 months

It looks like there is still a problem with the buffer tab. Sometimes it does not repaint all it would need to. Please see the included screenshot. (Debug on error is enabled but it did not see anything wrong!) Please let me know if I can help debug this in any way! Thanks, -- Marco

vm/png/mime/windows/xemacs type problem 22 years, 10 months

On windows xemacs (21.1.13) running on cygwin, when I get a email picture (like png) I get 'Unknown/Bad PNG image encoding' when I try to view the picture in VM. If I save the attachment to a file I can view the picture, so the attachment was ok. I tracked the error message down to vm-mime-display-internal-image-xemacs-xxxx The function created a png glyph with the contents of the picture stored in c:/windows/TEMP/vm1. When I tried to view c:/windows/TEMP/vm1, I get an image-conversion error shown below. Gnus fix: nnmail.el: nnmail-fix-eudora-headers regexp 22 years, 10 months

I'm not sure what the policy is for fixing bugs in "external" packages. I submitted the following to bugs(a)gnus.org. Should I submit the following to xemacs-patches as well so you can fix xemacs-packages/lisp/gnus/nnmail.el until the upstream Gnus is fixed? The problem is that the fifth argument to replace-match means something very different in Emacs than in XEmacs. (replace-match NEWTEXT &optional FIXEDCASE LITERAL STRING SUBEXP) The optional fifth argument SUBEXP specifies a subexpression of the match. It says to replace just that subexpression instead of the whole match. This is useful only after a regular expression search or match since only regular expressions have distinguished subexpressions.
