search from menu puts "Search" on all frames' title bars 23 years, 1 month

21.2 beta 45 Solaris 2.7/UltraSPARC/CDE 1.4 So the title bar contains the name of the buffer where the cursor is active (if you have 2 or more per frame). Ditto for the icon. I selected Edit->Find... from the menu (I was lazy that day:) which brought up the Search dialog. Simultaneously, *all* my frames' title bars acquired the title "Search". The icon names remained the name of the buffer. Changing buffers, opening other dialogs, even creating new frames - nothing changes this state. The "Search" title remains on all frames until I quit. 21.4 Release postponed to 2001/03/26 23 years, 1 month

Due to a couple of "showstopper" class bugs and the unavailability of several core developers for the next few days, the release of XEmacs 21.4 is being postponed again, until March 26. After a number of "technical difficulties" including mailing list problems and a completely unrelated bug that happened to be tickled by compiling one of the new Lisp files, the merge of the GTK code into the mainline has been completed. It is a remarkable testimony to the strength of the basic design of XEmacs, now about ten years old, that the addition of both a new event loop and a new display device required almost no changes to existing code outside of preprocessor or Lisp conditionals testing for the GTK feature. The GTK code itself is still very experimental and may be unstable, but we expect it to have no adverse impact on the rest of XEmacs in the release branch, so we will release it for those who would like to experiment with it. Several important bugs have been isolated and fixed, and others are in the process of analysis. The test versions of XEmacs 21.4 are very stable for most users on most platforms, and we expect to knock out or provide workarounds for the remaining known showstoppers within a few days. In particular MS Windows users are very happy with the improvements in functionality and stability. I will have time over the next few days to (finally) update the release pages again. A preliminary look at NEWS should be available by the time you see this. Anybody seen this one? pdump, maybe? Four times in the last couple of days. All I do in this XEmacs these days is run VM. There feels like there's a pattern, but I can't put my finger on it (something about a switching to or from a shell buffer, maybe while running a command). My Lisp may be somewhat bogus, my packages were updated a while ago and I know my VM is complaining about .els more recent than elcs. I'm afraid to update or the crash will go away.... xemacs-gtk is really broken 23 years, 1 month

hey all i just tried to send a bug report from xemacs with gtk compiled in it would not even send it it was so broken and the really annoying thing is i can cut and paste from the broken one to this one :( basic break down the menu buttons dont work most of the toolbar buttons dont work the error it comes up with is Symbol's function definition is void: gtk-make-dialog-box-internal platform is i686-pc-linux from a cvs update and build today (about 6 hours ago) if there is any other info you need please lmk Rendhalver

Well, I've heard nothing vetoing this from the board, so I am tagging the XEmacs tree with GTK_PREMERGE in case we need to roll it back, and then will proceed on to the checkin of the GTK code on the release-21-2 branch. Tagging done... quicker than I thought. Comitting now. Wheee! -Bill P.

Customize and focus again 23 years, 1 month

In XEmacs 21.2 (beta45) "Thelxepeia (GTK Inside)" [Lucid] (mips-sgi-irix6.5) of Fri Mar 9 2001 on anya configured using `configure --verbose --prefix=/usr/net/rnd --package-path=/usr/net/rnd/lib/xemacs --site-includes=/u/turner/Tools/IRIX/include --site-libraries=/u/turner/Tools/IRIX/lib --debug=no --error-checking=none '--cflags=-g -O3'' Recipe: 1. % xemacs -vanilla & 2. % M-x customize-face RET RET 3. click Done 4. don't click or move mouse, but try to move using C-n, C-p, or do C-l or whatever - nothing 5. click mouse, bingo, you're in business again it appears that focus is lost - strangely, though, I see the solid cursor, not the hollow one note that: o I have focus-follows-mouse set in my window manager, and o I have (focus-follows-mouse t) set -- John A.
