configured using `configure --prefix=/home/swoon --with-gcc --with-pop'
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
I'm running XEmacs 21.2.b35 (CVS checkout as of GMT-17:26-Oct-01-2000)
and Gnus 5.8.7 as distributed in the gnus-1.50 XEmacs package.
I created a corrupt JPEG file, uuencoded it, and sent it to myself as
mail. When I attempt to read the message with Gnus and Gnus tries to
auto-display the image, XEmacs aborts with:
Fatal error: assertion failed, file /home/swoon/build/xemacs-21.2/src/src/glyphs.c, line 3810, !UNBOUNDP (image_instance)
XEmacs-21.2-b31 running the same version of Gnus displaying the same
mail message simply displays the warning:
(1) (jpeg/info) Corrupt JPEG data: 21 extraneous bytes before marker 0x6d
in the *Warnings-Show* buffer. The Gnus *Article* buffer appears fine
except for the missing JPEG image.
When I attempt to view the corrupt image file in XEmacs 21.2-b35 by
calling
(image-decode-jpeg (point-min) (point-max))
XEmacs reports a problem with the image and continues to run. I
suspect XEmacs has changed the way a corrupt-image is reported in a
way that Gnus is not expecting.

I've experienced these (but haven't tried the dired customize
problem).
I'd like to add the following:
o xemacs crashes for me quite often in either gc or
make_lisp_buffer_stream. (Already reported). I have a sneaking
suspicion that it's a gcc 2.95.2 problem. After recompiling with
Sun CC 5.0, I haven't run into it today in the last few hours,
whereas it was happening as often as every 30 minutes with gcc
2.95.2. I'll have to try with gcc 2.7.2.2 too. Perhaps a note in
the PROBLEMS file?
o This one I haven't reported yet. When fontifying a buffer, the
progress bar moves very very slowly and fontification takes forever
(> many seconds). However, if I just move the mouse around in the
window, the progress bar zips by very quickly, and fontification
finishes in less than a second.
o A possibly related problem: I start up xemacs and gnus from the
command line and have it iconified. It gets stuck somewhere loading
up something. As soon as I deiconify it, it zips right along.

Hello
I have been trying to get recent-files to work, but have been unsuccesful.
There are many places on the internet where people talk about that
recent-files are already included in XEmacs, or that one should get
edit-util to get it to work, or even that is an independent package.
There are also different ways to get it to work.
First add the following lines to your .emacs files
(load "recent-files")
(recent-files-initialize)
This gives me the error:
(1) (initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading ~/.emacs:
Invalid function: "Recent Files"
To ensure normal operation, you should investigate the cause of the error
in your initialization file and remove it. Use the `-debug-init' option
to XEmacs to view a complete error backtrace.
Could you please tell me what went wrong ?

Running "xemacs21-nomule -vanilla" (this should be without mule support)
(emacs-version is "21.1 (patch 12) \"Channel Islands\" XEmacs Lucid").
Running (split-string "foo bar" "") starts the flashing mouse pointer
(from busy to not) and just pauses. Ctrl-g kills this.
This boils down to a regexp call in C. I assume something is going
wrong there. Is is still true that the xemacs version of the regexp
code is used rather than a system copy of the functions?
