non-existent arguments to start-process (lisp/code-process.el) 24 years, 3 months

The docstrings for `start-process' and `start-process-internal' refer to non-existent arguments INCODE and OUTCODE. It looks to me from the implementation of `start-process' that these are not arguments at all, but rather are computed from `process-coding-system-alist' and bound to `coding-system-for-read' and `coding-system-for-write' respectively. The coding style is opaque; I don't have time this week to figure it out? This makes layout a little more sane. Still not sane enough for progress gauges for font-lock .... I strongly believe there is some GC wierdness with the subwindow stuff which is causing the reported crashes. I have an idea what it is.
