More installation lossage 27 years

Configuring with --prefix=/some/where --exec-prefix=/some/where/BINARIES --datadir=/some/where results in an XEmacs that cannot find its own lisp directories. [crash] Fatal I/O Error 14 (Bad address) 27 years

I pushed `v' over a directory in a `dired' buffer, and XEmacs disappeared. In "~/.xsession-errors", I found: xemacs: Fatal I/O Error 14 (Bad address) on display connection ":0.0" after 32552 requests (32550 known processed) with 3 events remaining. ... After restarting, I tried again, and it's working fine now.

It's still not quitting when I push `C-x C-c', until I push `C-g' then try to exit again. Only with my config, not with vanilla. debug.c conflicts with debug.el 27 years

debug.c gets compiled into XEmacs when --debug is selected in configure. At the bottom it contains the code: void vars_of_debug (void) { Fprovide (intern ("debug")); This will cause (require 'debug) [expecting to load debug.el from the xemacs-base package] to lose. Can we change this internal symbol, or delete it?
