XEmacs cannot find site-packages?? 25 years, 5 months

Greetings. I tried to build xemacs 21.0-b57 from source (tarball) on a solaris 2.6 with these commands: export USR_LOCAL_PREFIX=/opt/local_dev/ cd xemacs-21.0-b57 make distclean ./configure \ --site-includes=${USR_LOCAL_PREFIX}/include \ --site-libraries=${USR_LOCAL_PREFIX}/lib \ --dynamic \ --prefix=${USR_LOCAL_PREFIX} \ --with-xpm \ --with-tooltalk=no \ --with-xface || exit 2 make install sitelispdir=${USR_LOCAL_PREFIX}/lib/xemacs/site-packages || exit 2 The problem is that xemacs will not find anything I put in site-packages. The INSTALL clearly states that sitelispdir is the arg to put on the make command to get this to happen. I originally build it w/o the sitelispdir arg and got the same behaviour. (Read about their layout in the texinfo documentation.) To get site-lisp back, specify --with-site-lisp (I think) from configure. Hello Les! Which platforma are you on? Trying setting EMACSDEBUGPATHS to find out what's going on. Check env. var. EMACSPACKAGEPATH or the registry key by that name under Windows NT. I am just starting to work with 21.2b4, and i am having trouble loading lisp from what used to be the /usr/lib/xemacs/site-lisp directory (and subdirs). as i understand it, there is now an early late and last lisp hierarchy. so i moved /usr/lib/xemacs/site-lisp to /usr/lib/xemacs/site-packages when i do this, the lisp dirs show up in the late-package variable, but late-package-load-path is nil and xemacs seems dumb about the lisp in those dirs when it starts and .emacs tries to load stuff from there. and load-path does not contain these site-packages subdirs either. is this a mistake on my part in reconfiguring xemacs under the new package system, or a glitch in new xemacs code (i know, i know, most likely the former)? thanks -- ____ Les Schaffer godzilla(a)netmeg.net ___| --->> Engineering R&D <<--- Theoretical & Applied Mechanics | Designspring, Inc.
