Adrian, I'm certainly using pcl-cvs with non-local repositories for XEmacs, pcl-cvs, and some things at work. I'm not using NT/Windows, however. The suggestions for fixing cvs-change-cvsroot to accept non-local roots look good, I'll incorporate them soon. Your problem with `e' I haven't reproduced, though I imagine it may be fixed in the current version in the repository, provided shell-command-switch is set to "/c". Beware though that this command is broken in that it does not seem to write out the updated file if you merge by hand. I'll get to fixing this sometime, but need to resolve incorporating Stefan Monnier's extensive changes first. Now back to the bigger problem, your M-x cvs-checkout. First, I can't claim ever to have run cvs-checkout, so I suggest doing cvs checkout outside emacs and using M-x cvs-{update,examine,status} to make sure that's not the issue. I suggest not setting the cvs-cvsroot variable with M-x cvs-change-cvsroot, CVS/pcl-cvs should do the right thing once you've checked out a module. Also, I'd like to get you using the current version in the repository, xemacs package version 1.37. That pcl-cvs-version="R-2_0-Beta_2" is meaningless, that's the author version. Do you have an ftp site I can drop a binary package on? Then, if you still have problems, I need a backtrace. thanks for testing... Greg

Neither the 21.0 nor the 20.4 source contain any obvious curses version check. For instance have you checked that all your support libraries (f.i. like libgpm) use the new ncurses? AFAIK there is no reason XEmacs shouldn't run with ncurses 4.x Jan

XEmacs works here (glibc 2.1 test release, Linux 2.1.126 on i486) fine with ncurses 4.2 - and this is to be expected since XEmacs doesn't need a special curses version. It might be that your installation of ncurses is somehow broken. Please copy & paste the exact error message you get and send it. Hi Greg, I thought about this for a while: D -- Directory name. f -- Existing file name. F -- Possibly nonexistent file name. How about using (interactive "F")? I haven't found a spec for possibly non-existent directory. That's why I propose a spec of possibly non-existent file. It gives us name completion and still lets you force an invalid path like :server:aichner＠engine:/u/aichner/cvsroot It's probably a good idea to check whether the path is a directory (as opposed to file) if it's a valid path. How does that sound? Do you want a patch for that?
