[21.5] automatic decoding 23 years, 1 month

Hello, There's a bug released for a long time. XEmacs 21.4.9 returns t, but XEmacs 21.5-b9 returns nil for the following expression. (let ((str (char-to-string (make-char 'japanese-jisx0208 36 34)))) (string-equal (decode-coding-string (encode-coding-string str 'euc-japan) 'undecided) str)) In other words, XEmacs 21.5-b9 doesn't do the automatic decoding for Japanese text. It doesn't work not only for euc-japan but also for shift_jis etc. Probably it relates to this, find-file treats Japanese text as raw-text. [PATCH 21.4] Make syntax tables a compile time option. 23 years, 1 month

Not for 21.5. My previous patch did not work since I had auto-generated it. This one has had some careful hand-editing and removes the bogosity. Cosmetic changes have been re-instated. Installing Native version on windows points to cygwin 23 years, 1 month

I'm stuck with similar problems with both Native and Cygwin on XP. The following problem report describes some of my efforts on Xemacs (Cygwin) on XP. Setup.exe does install the packages, and it appears they work. However, they cannot be configured via the menu entry "Options, Advanced(customize), Emacs, Packages." Moreover, the menu item "Tools, Packages, List and install" doesn't work at all. Setting EMACSPACKAGEPATH to "D:\cygwin\usr\local" makes some difference. "Tools, Packages, List and install" will load *packages*, but there are no installed versions, only latest versions. After selecting some packages to install and doing "Install/Remove packages," the message "Unable to find file <x>.tar.gz," where <x> is one of the package files previously selected. On the other hand, after this failed attempt to List and install, the menu entry "Options, Advanced(customize), Emacs, Packages." does work. Varioius settings for EMACSPACKAGEPATH give worse results. M-x describe-variable RET configure-package-path RET gives the following: `configure-package-path' is a simple built-in variable. Value: nil Documentation: For internal use by the build procedure only. configure's idea of what the package path will be.
