Can I get rid of LISP_FLOAT_TYPE? Here are the arguments for doing so:
1) FSF Emacs got rid of it a few years ago (the last traces disappeared
in February 2000, according to the Changelog).
2) It is unconditionally on anyway, so removing it will have no effect.
3) I'm working on enhanced number support (bignums, ratios, etc.).
a) Some parts have to be done differently depending on whether
LISP_FLOAT_TYPE is defined or not. Since it is always on, the
choice is between writing code that will never be used for the
"off" condition, or making the "off" code bitrot deliberately, in
which case we might as well get rid of it.
b) LISP_FLOAT_TYPE presents a view of the floating point support that
is a gross oversimplification of what the state will be after my
work bears fruit.
The only argument I can come up with for not nuking LISP_FLOAT_TYPE is
that somebody might someday port XEmacs to a platform with no floating
point support whatever. That seems to be a pretty weak argument when
stacked up against the ones above.

Hello all
I encounter some problems when working with Gnus under XEmacs Beta. Here
they are:
If I write a new article when running under 21.5.7 from 25. July
ISO-8859-1 is used, only if I use the Euro sign ISO-8859-15 is used, if
I reply to an 8859-1 message and use the Euro everything is send as
8859-15. This is what I want, I needed no special configuration for this
to work.
If I write a new article when running under 21.5.8 from 25. August
ISO-8859-15 is used even if the characters I use all fit into 8859-1, if
I reply to an 8859-1 message everything is always send as 8859-15.
If I write a new article when running under 21.5.9 from 24. September
ISO-8859-9 is used (it's the same as 8859-15 AFAIK) even if the
characters I use all fit into 8859-1, if I reply to an 8859-1 message
the unification is broken, Gnus wants to split the message into several
parts.
Because of this 21.5.8 is unusable for me at the moment. Latin-unity is
installed and up-to-date.
I'm running under Windows, native build, all optional libraries, all
packages installed and updated, you should find build-reports for all
three builds on the build-reports list. Gnus is CVS from yesterday but
should be innocent as everything still works with 21.5.7 (the same Gnus
was used in all three tests).
Any idea what is broken and how to fix it?

You're probably using GNU binutils? That's a bad idea, AFAIK. See
problems.
To get a build, try adding
--ldflags='-z nocombreloc'
to the configure command.

XEmacs don't stop and consumes a lot of CPU. Known problem?

Hi,
A few of my co-workers made fun of me and XEmacs (arrghhh!!! ;-) today
because I had one XEmacs that had been eating up some 30000 cpu
*minutes* on one of our servers.
I think it has to do with XEmacs not terminating nicely during certain
circumstances. Like when you log of from X relying on that all your
apps will terminate nicely. I this a known problem?

Hello World,
I would like to know how to change the read-only state of a buffer
depending on the cursor position, in files where parts (lines) are
surrounded by tags
like:
// {{{ USR tata yoyo
...
// Inside tags, I need buffer writable (buffer-read-only = nil)
...
// }}} USR tata yoyo
Outside those parts, the buffer must be automatically set as read-only.
Does a such mode exists, and if not, is it difficult to do ?
Does mmm-mode can be used in this case ?

There is a small bug in the layout widget routines whereby border text is
not considered in the calculation of the layout widget width, leading to
truncated text. The attached patch fixes. Recommended for both 21.4 and
21.5.
