I was actually trying to compile in an emacs window, using c-x c,
and pressed c-x c-c by mistake. (doh)

So, I've been using hide-ifdef-mode for C/C++ code.
For example, do M-x hide-ifdef-mode and M-x hide-ifdefs and
you see stuff like
foo.c:
#ifdef DEBUG ...
#endif
I'd like to see a few enhancements, for example, the '...' should be
mousable. If you click on the ... you see the code.
Also, the ifdef symbol could be mousable, and if clicked on could pop
up a menu to define or undefine the symbol.
I couldn't figure out where the ... was coming from, I guess it
is coming from 'selective-display-ellipses' in redisplay.c
How would I go about making this change?

I've accidentally discovered that (say) cperl-mode.el *does* color the
buffer opened as the first programming-language buffer since starting
xemacs, *if* there isn't any cperl-mode.elc . I wouldn't call it a
solution, but certainly it's a viable work-around...

problem building vhdl package

vhdl/Makefile REQUIRES line includes ps-print-nomule, which is now
deprecated.
Trying to build with the current sources yields the expected error:

So, I try to remove ps-print-nomule from the REQUIRES line, and I get
the not unexpected:

OK, so then I add ps-print to the REQUIRES definition and I get:

ps-postscript-code-directory isn't set properly

If I eval this:

and attempt to insert a newline by hitting return within the
editable-field, I find that I can't.
I want editing in place. So I have to do:

this is the third"

Which is really grubby. Any advice?

Dear Bug Team!
After successfully compiling 21.5.b4 on my Linux box with --pdump
I decided to try the new emacs onm my old HP-PA machine at the
office, running HP-UX 10.20.
Here is what happened:
With gcc version 2.7.2.3 the configuration aborted after a while,
so I decided to try
configure '--with-gcc=no' '--pdump' '--ldflags=-s' '--error-checking=no' '--with-gif'
The configuration and compilation (with the HP-UX cc and all the
flags) went fine, but the pdump version did not work (it came back
with "temacs works on -in -batch mode" (or something like that.
So I finally managed to compile as described below (without --pdump).
The only bad thing that happened was that the migration from my
old (somewhat unorthodox) .emacs to the .xemacs/init.el mangled
the file -- it seems to have read in byte-compiled stuff, which
gave loading errors. I fixed this by copying the init.el file
from my Linux box at home, and now everything seems to be normal.
If I can free up some diskspace I will try downloading and
installing gcc-3.0 and see if that works better.
