EFS 1.20pre1 bug: set ls switches for efs only?

Gruss bug team:
not a bug, really, but I have my dired switches set to "-abl", but the ftp
I'm connecting to:
denmark% ftp ftp194.pair.com
Connected to isris.pair.com.
220 ftp194.pair.com NcFTPd Server (licensed copy) ready.
Name (ftp194.pair.com:turner): anonymous
331 Guest login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.
only allows a subset of ls switches, so when I connect with efs I see:
ftp> ls -abl
200 PORT command successful.
504 Only ls flags accepted are -C, -F, -l, -t, -r, -1, -S, -L, -R, and -p.
now I could easily live without the -b option, but they don't even allow
-a, which I definitely want for normal dired buffers
I looked around in the efs customize options but didn't see a way to set ls
switches specifically for efs
clearly the remote system is broken, but what's the best way to work around
it, other than setting dired's ls switches for this machine?

prefer point to be approximately in the middle of the window. If I

This isn't unreasonable, though. If it were switchable by a variable
I would be inclined to approve it. I'd probably push for your
preference to be the default in the beta tree as that's the best way
to get feedback; we can revert to current later if more people hate it
than like it.

Hi,
this might be a small and simple problem --- but (to be honest) it
took me almost a year to figure it out:
The problem
-----------
If you use uniquify, you can allow it to rename the buffer names after
a buffer has been killed:
(setq uniquify-after-kill-buffer-p t)
For example, if you had the buffers: <foo|bar1> and <foo|bar2>, and
now you killed <foo|bar2>, uniquify will automatically rename
<foo|bar1> to <foo>.
However, if you do this, info will be broken. This is because AFTER A
WHILE the *info* buffer is renamed to the name of the currently
visited info-file. A new call of F1-i then messes up everything, the
history is broken, links are broken, etc.
The problem is that uniquify renames ALL buffers after any buffer has
been killed, including the *info* buffer (it usually renames it to the
name of the info file).
The solution
------------
... is simple. One can exclude the info buffer from being renamed by
setting:
(setq uniquify-ignore-buffers-re "^\\*info\\*$")
I found this problem hard to track because it shows up only after a
while (when I killed some buffer) --- I always suspected my info-dir
settings to be somehow erroneous. Therefore, I would like to suggest
to make this setting the default for uniquify-ignore-buffers-re
(instead of nil):

Michael, we face some temporary complications with CVS access at the
moment. Our repository is in flux.
At the same time our XEmacs packages manager, youngs(a)xemacs.org, is
computer-less for a while.
Stephen, could you please check with Steve whether a
packages\xemacs-packages\clearcase
directory would be the right place for this new package.
I think we should avoid confusing names with vc-cc.
I can bootstrap the new package next week.
Michael, after that you could send any patches to
xemacs-patches(a)xemacs.org and I would commit them for now.
You could however start immediately to make patches against Kevin's
latest clearcase.el and mark XEmacs changes clearly as such with:

Kevin might be able to accept such patches as long as they don't break
anything and look right.
It should make many people happy to have clearcase.el available as an
XEmacs package.
Let's wait for Kevin's and Stephen's input now.

Hi.
I'm using Xemacs for NT, ver 21.4 and win2k sp2.
I have a problem uning my mouse for selecting and yanking:
I can select a region with my mouse. However, when I tries to use
button 2 or 3 to paste the selection, I get a "Lisp nesting exceeds
'lax-lisp-eval-depth'" error message, and nothing happens.
What I would expect to be happened is the same as it was on my Xemacs for
Unix: Drag while pressing button1 to select, point and click button2 (or 3)
to paste.

Hi,
somehow xemacs 21.4.4 crashed.
All I did is to start xemacs with a file:
xemacs .xemacs/init.el
and then opened the file-menue and exited xemacs.

xemacs 21.5.3 GTK|GNOME annoyance : it goes BEEP when it shouldn't.

with XEmacs 21.5.3 -- from CVS on september 21 --
compiled --with-gnome and --with-gtk,
it beeps on errors, despite the following efforts to stop it:
configured and compiled: --with-sound=none
ran: xset b off
disabled "enable sound server startup" in GNOME Control Center
evaluated: (setq bell-volume 0)
under those conditions -- and, presumably, under any conditions with the
GTK gui -- , it also beeps on 'quit', unless debug-on-quit is non-nil
this is only when it's running with the gtk gui, not when it's running in
a tty
it's far from being a release-critical bug. it's just an annoyance,
getting a "BEEP" (as opposed to a backtrace) with every C-g , and with
every time i try to move the cursor past the end or beginning of the
buffer.
after 'xset b off' and bell-volume set to 0, (beep) -- and whatever
similar of it is being called from (signal foo bar) -- should have no
audible effect.
