Hi, I compiled xemacs myself and installed into $HOME/xemacs-without-ipv6-cname I then made a symlink of $HOME/xemacs-without-ipv6-cname/bin/xemacs to $HOME/bin/xemacs I untarred the sumo tarball from http://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/packages/xemacs-sumo-2009-02-17.tar.gz and untarred it into $HOME/xemacs-without-ipv6-cname/lib/xemacs, which made a directory called xemacs-packages there. When I run xemacs, I am not able to update my packages. I go to Tools -> Packages -> Set Download Site -> Official Releases -> US and choose US Main. I then go "update package index" or any other command in the Tools menu about Packages and it complains: "symbol's value as variable is void: allow-remote-paths" Can anyone help me with this? [Bug: 21.5-b29] packages UI: non-ideal handling of missing deps 12 years, 11 months

================================================================ Dear Bug Team! I've been running into a lot of those "Cannot open load file: " messages. I've just realized that this is probably because the package management UI does not check dependancies unless explicitly requested to do so; it would probably be a good idea to have an option (defaulting to on) to have it do this automatically at the beginning of `pui-install-selected-packages' (aka "x"). If the check fails, the user should probably have a choice between "include dependancies", "ignore dependancies", and "cancel". Also, having realized this, I tried to fix it with just `pui-add-required-packages', but that refused to do anything unless I selected at least one package first; perhaps this check should be removed? GPLv3 status 13 years, 5 months

Let's say that, hypothetically speaking, I could spend a little time over the next couple of weeks on some XEmacs work. Is there something that needs to be done to finalize the GPLv3 transition? What state are we in there? How can I help? unicode in *compilation* buffer? 13 years, 6 months

Hi - Recent versions of gcc produce message like cd /home/cgw/Work/ gcc -o inotify inotify.c inotify.c: In function a^\200\230actiona^\200\231: ... This looks like a unicode encoding of quotation marks - it looks correct in a terminal, but not in the XEmacs *compilation* buffer. How do I bind Escape in XEmacs? 13 years, 6 months

Hello, could please someone explain to me how I can bind the ESC key in XEmacs? Nothing I tried and expected to work (various combinations of `{global,local}-set-key', `define-key', [escape], [(escape)], (kbd "ESC"), (kbd "<escape>") etc.) seems to have any effect. I guess the ESC key is somehow special-cased by XEmacs at low level; unfortunately I have no idea what I need to do to rebind it and searching through the documentation and Internet didn't help either. (Tested with XEmacs from the Hg repository, but 21.4 seems to behave the same way.) When I try to run the package manager in an account with no ~/.xemacs/ yet (e.g. by typing M-x list-packages), first xemacs tells me that there's no package database yet, and would I like it to create one in ~/.xemacs/?
