XEmacs' internal xface image support. 21 years, 3 months

--- That is two images side by side. The one on the left you'd probably recognise as what I use in my X-Face header. The one on the right isn't so familiar, it is Adrian's X-Face. What's happening here? Is our xface image support broken? Adrian's X-Face displays correctly for me in Gnus, but I think Gnus converts the image to an XPM

Cannot build latest ecb 21 years, 3 months

Using a non-mule 21.4 XEmacs, I cannot build the latest ecb package from CVS. But "upstream" nowadays is at <http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/w3> and <http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/url>, it has been split. I have no objections to your suggested fix, but following upstream (even though obsoleted in this case) would be the preferred way to go if the fixes are equally good. IIRC when browsing the upstream CVS, I noticed that mule-sysdp.el was first removed from the w3 CVS with a note that it's been obsoleted in favor of the one in the new url package, but it has been removed from url CVS with a note of it being obsolete. [Bug: 21.4.10] error translating mule entities 21 years, 3 months

When using "VM" to view HTML-formatted email sent by people using MS Outlook, I get MIME translation errors. The MS Exchange Server formats the HTML with entities like "’" which w3 (as invoked by VM to display the html) does not know how to display. Not knowing how to display garbage like that is fine IMHO, but it should (and tries to) choose a reasonable fallback but it fails instead. The error code received is: (wrong-type-argument char-or-string-p 8217) SOLUTION: The mule-make-iso-character function in mule-sysdp.el (from the w3 package in /usr/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages/lisp/w3) erroneously returns the input *integer* value if it cannot determine a valid translation for the character entity value. Crashes when frames are closed (21.5.10b) 21 years, 3 months

I am asking a very broad question. I have turned in crash reports and won't bore the list with more of them. But I still have frame close crashes (latest CVS of Feb 12) in 21.5.10 on Mac OS X 10.2.3 running X11.app with xquartz window manager. I know there were reports earlier of other systems with similar crashes. Mine appear to be connected to code in either the function x_find_frame_for_window, Fdelete_frame, or one of the functions in the chain of commands between these two. The stack always ends with x_find_frame_for_window, and when I induce the crash, there is always a Fdelete_frame in there too. It does not occur when the program exits and deletes the only frame it owns. The error does not occur in 21.5.9b. I do not think it occurred in earlier versions of 21.5.10, but those had display errors instead. Has anyone else seen this crash? What suggestions could anyone give to help me isolate the code that is actually choking? It might be that some function is either returning a NULL pointer or referencing one. I think that the PPC may have the feature that references to address 0x00000000 cause BUS errors. It used to on the old 68000 series, and the register and stack show that something is trying to touch address 0x00000000 or run code at that address triggering Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000 I am many years away from my fading knowledge of 68K assem errors and have no knowledge of PPC quirks, but this seems like a good guess and could explain why the crash does not show up with other architectures. By the way I have compiled the source with a number of configurations including the barest necessary to be able to create frames, but even the simplest form and starting with the -vanilla option crashes when I close a frame other than the one that opens at start up even if that frame is only a dialog box. The type of widgets, scrollbars, etc has no effect on the crash. Mule, win32 native, current cvs 21 years, 3 months

I have a new problem using the current cvs source code compiled with Mule under native win32. The Mule tests run ok (apart for the bug below). But whenever I ask for example : (split-char ?é) ;; here the char is eacute I get some funny result: (chinese-sisheng 38). Also, when I open a new file in 'Noconv' encoding mode (ie: should be latin-1), if I type some accented characters and then I save the file, the file is unreadable (contains ~ chars if I 'type' it on the console). Next if I switch the encoding to MSW-MB and I write the file again, then the chars are correct on the console, even if in the buffer those chars are still reported to belong to some other encoding (by asking (char-charset (char-after (point))) ) and displayed correctly. The trick is that Gnus does not tolerate that the encoding is reported wrong, it will split your message in as many parts as needed to mime-send it. I have tried to disable every single option I could (no optimization, no KKCC, no UNION_TYPE etc.), every time making a distclean. No I wonder where to look in the source code. Let me know if I can help further in solving this problem. Xemacs crash on MacOSX 21 years, 3 months

I am running Xemacs on Mac OS X 10.2.3 and it crashes. This happens when I try to load a C program file. Please see the distro info from M-x describe-installation and the crash log.
