When I try to update pre-release packages, my updated package list contains the following line: * ess 1.06 1.05 ESS: Emacs Speaks Statistics. After I select ess, I get this error: Search failed: Unable to find file ess-1.06-pkg.tar.gz I have tried the main US repository, the UTK, and the UNC sites. They all return the same error. Other announced packages are installing fine. -- rdr

gpg.el in XEmacs Gnus package 20 years, 5 months

Hi Folks! I just want to know if anyone is actually using gpg.el from the XEmacs Gnus package? Anyone who is familiar with the upstream Gnus would be aware that gpg.el is only in the contrib directory. And if nobody (or next to nobody) here is actually using it, I'd like to remove it from the XEmacs package. Wanted: sregexp.el and/or rx.el 20 years, 5 months

In my CC Mode development, I have to maintain fairly large regexps. I'd like to use better tools than `regexp-opt' and `concat' to do that. In Emacs there are two packages to aid in building regexps using an sexp syntax: sregexp.el and rx.el. I've looked around for similar regexp building packages in XEmacs but haven't found any. So my first question is: Are there such tools distributed with XEmacs? If not, I suggest that sregexp.el and rx.el are added to XEmacs, so that they can be used in code that needs to be compatible with both Emacs and XEmacs. Both Emacs packages solve the same problem. rx.el is a bit newer and exploits shy groups while sregexp.el provide tools to keep track of submatch groups. If there has to be a choice, I'd prefer sregexp.el simply because it's older and works with Emacs 20 which I want to remain compatible with. My second question is: Would it be ok to add these two to a package that can be trusted to be installed?

Please describe as succinctly as possible: - What happened. - What you thought should have happened. - Precisely what you were doing at the time. I installed cygwin on MS XP, and installed cygwin version of Xemacs 21.4.13. But I can not compile java. Every time issuing java compile cmd, the cmd bar would be freezing and the whole emacs window would fall into pieces. Mouse and keyboard won't work. Only task manager can kill the xemacs. By the way, i launch emacs from cygwin. Interesting enough, when I do the same on MS NT, two console windows (cygwin) would be spawn, always happens in the first time. The console windows would be spawn on top of the xemcas windows. But emacs won't crash. The second time compiling, it would not happen, and everything is ok. I will try to install native xemacs version and see if I have the same compiling problem on XP. This sounds like the problem mentioned in: Q6.3.3: XEmacs 21.1 on Windows used to spawn an ugly console window on every startup. Has that been fixed? Any one ever seen this problem?? Please advice, vivien
