Dear Bug Team!
I attempted to update packages (tools/packages/update installed packages)
yesterday, and every internet site I tried came back "ftp.blah... does not
appear to be a pty". Today when I launch xemacs (Academic Rigor release on
Win2k), I get a console window listing one package after another with the
message "Loading c:\Program
Files\XEmacs\xemacs-packages\lisp\zenirc\auto-autoloads...done (file
auto-autoloads.el is newer)" (for each package I have installed), then the
regular xemacs window appears. What gives?

Hi,
I've been trying to use subj. (installed the net-utils package
last week to get it), but it just says
Cannot open load file: sendmail
In case it matters, I have a mail server configured on my machine
(SuSE Linux) but it isn't sendmail - it's qmail.
XEmacs is from today's CVS (xemacs-21.5); I'm including the buffer
of Tools|Packages|List and Install in case I'm missing some
dependency. If there is any aditional info you need please let me
know.

No, this happens with a non GTK build. The following patch makes it
work for me again:
But this is not a correct fix, it just reverts to the behaviour before
the recent GTK changes which broke it. With my patch applied, it will
probably not work anymore fot the GTK build, i.e. it must be fixed
correctly in some other way to make it for for both GTK and non-GTK.

I think this needs to be removed. Take the reference to managing
packages via Customize out of the TeXinfo and remove the appropriate
defcustoms.
The less number of ways people have for managing packages the better
(IMO). We can already do it:
- Manually via FTP/tar individual packages
- Manually via FTP/tar Sumo packages
- Automagically via XEmacs Package Tools (mouse - menu choices)
- Automagically via XEmacs Package Tools (keyboard - M-x
commands)
The Customize way seems to be broke. I don't think it would be worth
the trouble to fix it, so let's take it out completely.
Anyone disagree?

I just upgraded 21.5 from CVS and now get this on just about every frame
operation:
xemacs: X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 91 (X_QueryColors)

EFS 1.20pre1 bug: set ls switches for efs only?

not a bug, really, but I have my dired switches set to "-abl", but the ftp
I'm connecting to:
denmark% ftp ftp194.pair.com
Connected to isris.pair.com.
220 ftp194.pair.com NcFTPd Server (licensed copy) ready.
Name (ftp194.pair.com:turner): anonymous
331 Guest login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.
only allows a subset of ls switches, so when I connect with efs I see:
ftp> ls -abl
200 PORT command successful.
504 Only ls flags accepted are -C, -F, -l, -t, -r, -1, -S, -L, -R, and -p.
now I could easily live without the -b option, but they don't even allow
-a, which I definitely want for normal dired buffers
I looked around in the efs customize options but didn't see a way to set ls
switches specifically for efs
clearly the remote system is broken, but what's the best way to work around
it, other than setting dired's ls switches for this machine?

Dear Bug Team!
Thanks to a suggestion from Stephen Turnbull of upgrading to 21.4.6,
I've basically gotten the pop3-leave-mail-on-server functionality
working with gnus. However, I've discovered that certain messages
(some spam, some not) seem to override whatever mechanism pop3 uses to
track which messages have been read. These messages get downloaded as
new mail every time I do a check, regardless of how many times I've
seen them before.
I believe pop3.el is writing the message ID to the .uidls file, so I
assume it's something about the message IDs of these messages that
breaks that. I've attached an example of one of these messages.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
I'm trying to use gnus 5.8.8 with the option pop3-leave-mail-on-server
to leave mail on the pop server. This requires using the pop3.el from
mail-lib. However, I'm getting errors in writing the .uidls.old file
that pop3.el uses to keep track of which messages have been read.
At the suggestion of Simon Josefsson, I tried this simple experiment,
which *did* give me an error:

but it *does* create foo.old! Weird.
Any clues on this? I get similar errors when I try to use Franklin

21.1.

This is definitely the behavior I prefer. When moving by screen I
prefer point to be approximately in the middle of the window. If I
wanted end-of-buffer, I'd use M->. So unless there nearly unanimous
support from users/the Review Board, I would be inclined to veto this
patch.

This isn't unreasonable, though. If it were switchable by a variable
I would be inclined to approve it. I'd probably push for your
preference to be the default in the beta tree as that's the best way
to get feedback; we can revert to current later if more people hate it
than like it.
