mode, I receive an "Error in dired-find-file-place".

evidently the swedish chars get translated into iso-8859-14 and we can't yet
render this. i think we don't have unicode font support, which would do the
trick -- i thought we did but evidently i never wrote it.
stephen, what about your latin-unity package?
also, maybe we shouldn't be translating into 8859-14? what is this charset,
anyway? is this for the euro sign or something?

This is apparently a bug in transpose-chars. My guess is that what is
happening is that text is first deleted, shortening the extent, then
inserted after point. Since the extent is open at the endpoint, this
results in the inserted text being outside the extent.

I'm not sure what's going on here. I'll take a look at it.
I think it's safe to say you should avoid writing code depending on
the behavior here, it's probably going to change.
