Again I just loaded the elisp from the last message (actually missing
the last few related to dired). Then I opened the file. and did M-x
font-lock-mode and it crashed. I an still see the two boxes in the
box at the bottom of the screen. It says "Fontifying
ulong-test.c...".

make-charset doesn't handle 'short-name' properly

Accidentally I noticed that 'make-charset' doesn't handle a property
'short-name' correctly.

And it's very reproducible. This seems to be a font locking issue
because every time it happens (I couldn't include the previous email
in this one because it was causing a crash) the two boxes which look
like font lock progress bars (but I haven't seen much of them because

This is opening a particular directory (test) which contains a bunch
of junk that I was playing with at one point or another. File list if
anyone thinks it'll help.
Different issue:
Startup time is very long now (in comparison to 21.1.14).

i got this after compiling latest cvs of 21.5
(1) (initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading /home/rendhalver/.xemacs/init.el:
Cannot open load file: dired
To ensure normal operation, you should investigate the cause of the error
in your initialization file and remove it. Use the `-debug-init' option
to XEmacs to view a complete error backtrace.

Setting CFLAGS to explicit '-nostdinc -I/usr/freeware/include -I/usr/include'
should help. Same for the libraries with -nostdlib.

Moving files should be avoided if possible. If you sure you don't need
that old version of png.h, remove ifl_dev.sw.c++ using inst of swmgr.

Currently it seems like `setup-cyrillic-koi8-environment' is
appropriate place (I am not sure if adding more properties to
language-environment (font registry and ccl-program) is more
convenient). It needs to be documented. I'll try to write something
tomorrow and maybe discuss the issue in some local newsgroup, but for
now it seems to me like

I think that I'll convince someone who uses other kinds of cyrillic
environments (I know of several people using cyrillic-1251, not sure
is there anyone working with cp866 (alternativnyj)) to contribute
changes needed for them.
Please, notify me if any of my patches will appear in main XEmacs, so
that I'll not be drowned with my local changes (I haven't imported it
into CVS yet).
