Salam,
I've fixed `list-coding-systems', both with C-u (it simply works now
;) and without it (it now lists only base coding systems, as per
documentation). It was broken because interface of appropriate
functions changed heavily.
It was necessary to change record separator from colon to semicolon
because some coding systems have colons in their names.
Hope it will go into base XEmacs (notify me in that case, please :)

problem with loading pces-xm in 21.5.1

hi all
got a problem with xemacs beta
my init file works fine with 21.4
but 21.5.1 complains about not being able to load pces-xm
could it be a mule thing
my 21.4 instalation doesnt have mule
and ive got a separate packages tree (from experimental) for beta version
all packages for beta are current
um i had problems installing leim could that be it ??
my init.el file is almost the same as the sample one
plus a couple of included files for vm customisation

"Developer-Friendly Unix APIs" is the second in the OXYMORON series.
Relative to XEmacs 21.4.1 "Copyleft", it contains a few typo fixes in
the documentation and some fixes to critical bugs (including a nasty
hang in menus on the Windows platform). More detailed information

The first release in this series, Xemacs 21.4.0 "Solid Vapor",

for users who absolutely must minimize risk, we continue to recommend
the 21.1 series.
Nevertheless, almost all users will get very high reliability from
XEmacs 21.4, and in return, access to many new features and improved
functionality. No new destabilizing code will be added; each release
in the 21.4 series should be strictly more stable and bug-free than
the preceding one. We also recommend the 21.4 series to distribution
packagers (such as Linux distributions and the open source BSD "ports"
or "packages" maintainers) for their "testing" and "development"
distributions.

The CVS Repository structure has been rationalized thanks to Michael
Sperber. The development code is now on the trunk. There are several
active branches, each with per-release tags of the form "r21-4-0"
(major-minor-patchlevel), and a branch tag which always gives the tip:

Development trunk (21.5): none r21-5-xx
"Gamma" branch (21.4): release-21-4 r21-4-xx
Stable branch (21.1): release-21-1 r21-1-xx
The trunk has a special "moving" release tag, "r21-5-latest-beta".
This is updated with each release to reflect the most recent beta
release. (The Beta Release Maintainer makes some effort to ensure
that beta releases at least build; there is no way to make such a
guarantee for the tip of the trunk in our development model.)
There is no "moving" release tag for stable versions; just use "-r
release-21-1" if you need the current release of version 21.1, and "-r
release-21-4" for 21.4.
To update an existing CVS checkout to the trunk (development), use the
-A flag to cvs update. For a fresh checkout, simply use no -r flag.
To checkout or update to one of the other branches, use the -r flag
with the appropriate branch tag. http://cvs.xemacs.org/ has more
information. It is in the process of being updated, so some
information about tags may be inaccurate for a few days.

there is a very annoying issue when using non-Mule XEmacsen in
Cyrillic environments under X with xkb. src/event-Xt.c contains
x_keysym_to_character() which translates Cyrillic_XXX to one-byte
character code (also used by Mule). Without Mule it always produces
iso8859-5 characters, which is very annoying because in fact this
charset is very rarely used in Russia.
Various horrible hacks float around, e.g.:
(global-set-key [(Cyrillic_HARDSIGN)]
'(lambda ()
(interactive)
(insert "\xFF")))
and so on for every Cyrillic_XXX. This looks horrible, does not work
with isearch and is otherwise unacceptable, though widely used :) Some
decide to disable Xkb. Some try to switch to Mule, but get stuck with
font encoding problem we've been fixing recently :)
I think I'll try to implement
(set-xkb-cyrillic-charset "koi8-r") ;; also "iso8859-5" (default),
;; "windows-1251" and "cp866"
that switches cyrillic[] array used by that function.
I've already got some approval of this idea and encouragement by some
local XEmacs users. Hope to have patch available very soon.

Using dired-handler-fn as a file name handler for file-local-copy

It seems that EFS attaches dired-handler-fn as a handler for
file-local-copy to every local file:
(find-file-name-handler "/tmp/foo" 'file-local-copy)
I believe this is an illegitimate use, because by definition such a handler
is supposed to help make a local copy of a file. It is not supposed to be
used for every imaginable hack.
In EFS it is used to update the Dired buffer, which has nothing to do with
making local copies.
The problem is that this (what I believe illegitimate) use
has the potential to confuse other packages (and it does cause hickups to
Ediff; it probably would confuse trump.el or cause problems porting it to
XEmacs).

got a problem with 21.5.1 (latest cvs)
it complains about not finding pces-xm
i have no idea what that does i looked for it in the file system but
it doesnt exist
