in september i posted two trouble reports:

neither of which were answered in any fashion.
i just now built 21.4.5 and have the same exact problems. is there an
interest in fixing the gtk bugs or not?

Michael, we face some temporary complications with CVS access at the
moment. Our repository is in flux.
At the same time our XEmacs packages manager, youngs(a)xemacs.org, is
computer-less for a while.
Stephen, could you please check with Steve whether a
packages\xemacs-packages\clearcase
directory would be the right place for this new package.
I think we should avoid confusing names with vc-cc.
I can bootstrap the new package next week.
Michael, after that you could send any patches to
xemacs-patches(a)xemacs.org and I would commit them for now.
You could however start immediately to make patches against Kevin's
latest clearcase.el and mark XEmacs changes clearly as such with:

Kevin might be able to accept such patches as long as they don't break
anything and look right.
It should make many people happy to have clearcase.el available as an
XEmacs package.
Let's wait for Kevin's and Stephen's input now.

Hi.
I'm using Xemacs for NT, ver 21.4 and win2k sp2.
I have a problem uning my mouse for selecting and yanking:
I can select a region with my mouse. However, when I tries to use
button 2 or 3 to paste the selection, I get a "Lisp nesting exceeds
'lax-lisp-eval-depth'" error message, and nothing happens.
What I would expect to be happened is the same as it was on my Xemacs for
Unix: Drag while pressing button1 to select, point and click button2 (or 3)
to paste.

There may be another little XEmacs --with-gtk bug; does anyone else
get these symptoms?
GTK programs have a menu that you can pull off and put somewhere
else. When its menu is pulled off the XEmacs frame resizes itself,
becoming taller by one. When it is re-attached, the XEmacs frame
resizes itself, becoming shorter by two and narrower by one. The
frame shrinks!
If I repeatedly detach and re-attach the menu then the frame will
shrink to about two thirds of its original size, but no further.
This occurs on my system with XEmacs 21.5.3b and 21.4.5, built
--with-gtk, using either the sawfish or xfwm window managers. It
doesn't happen with an old XEmacs 21.1.12 (GTK).

Lisp error attempting to install packages for 21.5.3 with GTK.

To reproduce:
1. Build and install xemacs-21.5.3 9 (see Installation below).
2. Untar efs-1.26 and xemacs-base-1.55 according to installation HOW-TO.
3. Start xemacs -q -no-site-file
4. Menu Tools -> Packages -> Add download site -> xemacs.org.
5. Menu Options -> Troubleshooting -> Debug on error
6. Menu Tools -> Packages -> List and install
7. Emacs downloads something from xemacs.org, but when the progress
counter reaches 100%... (see lisp debugger's backtrace below:)
8. I searched the list's archive and with Google for this error
message, and didn't find anything. So how do other folks use
21.5.3 with GTK (or don't they)? I don't see how 21.5.3 is usable
even for testing if I can't get as far as loading the packages.

Hi,
somehow xemacs 21.4.4 crashed.
All I did is to start xemacs with a file:
xemacs .xemacs/init.el
and then opened the file-menue and exited xemacs.

xemacs 21.5.3 GTK|GNOME annoyance : it goes BEEP when it shouldn't.

with XEmacs 21.5.3 -- from CVS on september 21 --
compiled --with-gnome and --with-gtk,
it beeps on errors, despite the following efforts to stop it:
configured and compiled: --with-sound=none
ran: xset b off
disabled "enable sound server startup" in GNOME Control Center
evaluated: (setq bell-volume 0)
under those conditions -- and, presumably, under any conditions with the
GTK gui -- , it also beeps on 'quit', unless debug-on-quit is non-nil
this is only when it's running with the gtk gui, not when it's running in
a tty
it's far from being a release-critical bug. it's just an annoyance,
getting a "BEEP" (as opposed to a backtrace) with every C-g , and with
every time i try to move the cursor past the end or beginning of the
buffer.
after 'xset b off' and bell-volume set to 0, (beep) -- and whatever
similar of it is being called from (signal foo bar) -- should have no
audible effect.

Now run XEmacs on tty. XEmacs will likely become much more colorful
(for better or worse). So, question is, should XEmacs try to use a
close to requested color (say "blue" for "blue4"), or should it
default to no-color as it does now. Obviously, color matching
heuristic could be more sophisticated.

Sorry for being absent for quite a while. I recently
started reading XEmacs lists again. There are huge pile of
unread mail I should read but I hope I'll be able to restart
reviewing patches within this year.
I still can't spend many hours fixing XEmacs bugs but if you
have somethong that falls into the area of my expertise,
please resend them and I'll try to fix them.
