This is Sun GNOME 2.x, so it's metacity.

No X errors, but it still crashes.

Urrrr! Taste!!
Taste ... like ... PEBKAC. Yech.
Good thing we no do report to metacity.
Ur. Good thing!
Probably meaningless to anybody under the age of 40 ....

No, it would not be a waste. Although the mechanisms are rather
different, both the plausible technologies I know (X resources and GNU
gettext) are configured in one file per language, which provides a
mapping from an abstract message to the actual string in some
language.
The important thing to recognize is that the two methods implement the
same mapping. So since the raw data is organized the same way (ie,
file per language), it will be straightforward to extract translations
used in the X resource files, and automatically generate a pretty good
set of translation for another system such as gettext.
> (Which could explain why so few languages are there at the

I think that this is not the reason. Rather, since only the menus and
startup screen are translated, we simply never put a lot of effort
into getting translations.
> Specifically: I just started with adding support for Swedish. Should I
> stop?
No, I don't think so. Your effort won't be wasted as long as you know
people will use it. And it will provide a basis for further work even
if we change the implementation of localized messages.

I would be super-interested in the values of ximage, of ximage->f, and of
ximage->f.destroy_image in that stack frame. You’ll need to do something
like the following within GDB to have that shown:
(gdb) up 6
(gdb) p ximage
(gdb) p ximage->f
(gdb) p ximage->f.destroy_image
Thanks for investigating this,
Aidan

[Bug: 21.5-b28] Crash when closing xemacs via window manager

Raymond Toy
================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
Here's a 100% repeatable crash for me on Solaris 10. This is from a
cvs build from 2008-06-01. (Yes, I'm slow to update cvs builds.)
Run xemacs -vanilla. After the splash screen is displayed, use the
window manager button to kill the window. I get a bunch of messages
to the xterm where I started it:

Warning:
Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term. We include it so that bug reports work without
packages; we suggest that you choose and/or install one of the other mail
clients from packages if you're doing something other than M-x
report-xemacs-bug , or even if you are reporting bugs regularly.
To choose a package from those installed, click on "Options" ->
"Internet" -> "Compose Mail With ..." and decide on one from the
list. Gnus and VM are full-featured and have active user communities.
To disable this warning and stick with the old behavior, you can explicitly
initialize `mail-user-agent' to 'sendmail-user-agent .

There have been no structural changes that I am aware of between 11.84
and 11.85 (released five months ago), so I think it should be
straightforward to use the latest released AUCTeX version instead.

There was a discussion about it on this list in September 2007
(subject: [C] Fix unwanted point moveage in VM)
(The unwanted point moveage is a separate issue, addressed by Michael
on Sep 7 with a fix to tapestry.)
I sent a transcript of sessions showing the problem to Stephen, Aidan,
Michael and Joachim.
As a note on Oct 2 to this list, I gave an example in Info mode, not
just in VM.

XEmacs frame always on top
16 years, 3 months
Jerry James
I compiled a new XEmacs from the latest in Mercurial, and a new set of
packages from the latest in CVS over the weekend, the first time I've
done that in about 6 weeks. Now, on my x86_64 Fedora 9 system with a
GNOME desktop and metacity, the first XEmacs frame starts up with the
"Always on top" property set. Subsequent frames created with C-x 5 2
don't have that property set. I have neither .Xdefaults nor
.Xresources on the affected machine. This is only a minor annoyance,
since I can easily remove that property, but I'd like to know why it
is getting set on that first frame, especially since this did not
happen with my previous build. Has anyone else seen this? If not,
I'll file a proper bug report.

installed, now all is ok (with regard to VM of course)
imo, VM-7.26 is a better package than the stable package, VM-7.22
- is based on the last (maybe the greatest...) of Kyle's VM,
- has many xemacs specific bug fixes wrt coding systems
- has many xemacs specific bug fixes wrt windows configuration
why don't put it where it deserves, id est, among the stable packages?
are there any objection to such a simple move?
thank you all for all the helping, ciao
