16 years, 8 months
Rafal Ablamowicz
Hello,
I would appreciate help getting xemacs to run or, more precisely,
Singular under emacs or xemacs to run. I have tried all i could,
reinstalled cygwin and emacs/xemacs/Singular several times, but I can't
run Singular undet emacs. I can under bash window. I am using Windows
XP. Attached ate some error messages and configuration reports.
Thanks in advance.

[nXML-mode related]Q: How was modeline-process handled in XEmacs(was Re: Is there a working nxml-mode in XEmacs?)
16 years, 8 months
FKtPp
hi all,
first, status report for the porting work progress.
I've done some dirty work on porting the font-lock related code to
XEmacs, and it looks like I successed. nXML-mode's font-lock code do
not relay on font-lock-keywords, and it's fully self contained. So the
work is much easier than we thought of, I wrote some wrapper function
s(details please find out from
http://hg.linuxfire.com.cn/nxml-mode-fktpp/rev/d9127044a849 ) for exist
#'nxml-fontify-* and It just works. ;)
second, same as the mail-subject said.
How is 'modeline-process get processed when redisplay(forced) modeline?
nxml-mode used to setup a 'mode-line-process with a list:
(setq mode-line-process '(rng-validate-mode (:eval
(rng-compute-mode-line-string))))
which will update modeline major-mode status string whenever modeline
got redraw. But it seemd that it is not the case of XEmacs, I've also
tried the same way by the following code:
(setq modeline-process
`(rng-validate-mode ,(rng-compute-mode-line-string))))
The result is ... only the *FIRST* *TIME* value returned by #'
rng-compute-modeline-line-string get displayed in the modeline,
modeline never changed at following #'redraw-modeline call.
So, the question is... How is 'modeline-process get handled in XEmacs?
It's contents(list) just get evaluated once upon changeing the
'modeline-process? or will be evaluated whenever modeline get redraw? Is
there a way to emulated FSF behavior?

In the Gnus v5-10 branch, which is being synch'd with the Emacs
EMACS_22_BASE branch, the version of tls.el that uses rx has been
merged yesterday. And tls.el came not to be able to byte compile
with XEmacs, because rx.el is not available in XEmacs. Could it
be rewritten not using rx.el?

OK, so I'll leave it as is. I just wanted to know what is the recommended
method.

XEmacs Tracker open for business
16 years, 8 months
Stephen J. Turnbull
At long last the XEmacs Project enters the 21st century with a modern
issue tracker of its own.
It's based on the Roundup tracker designed by Ka-Ping Yee and
implemented by Richard Jones, with a few pieces (and probably more to
come) borrowed from the Python issue tracker.
It's been primed with about 125 XEmacs issues from the xemacs-beta
mailing list since October 1, 2007, and 60 or so tracker-specific
issues. Currently users are expected to interact with the tracker via
the web interface, but a filter on the xemacs-beta list which will
automatically forward bug reports to the tracker is planned for the
near future.
To get started with the tracker, visit
http://tracker.xemacs.org/XEmacs/its/
look at a few issues, and try a couple of queries to see how things
work. Then skim the User Guide to get an idea of how the tracker is
organized and how it tracks our workflow. (The link is at the top of
the Help block in the sidebar.)
Then register. The registration link is in the middle of the Login
block in the sidebar. In principle, registration is simple. You give
Roundup your preferred user name, password, full name, and principal
email address, and (optionally) alternate email addresses. Roundup
sends you a confirmation email, you reply to it, and you're
registered.
In practice, it's a little harder than that. First, email delays will
be experienced because first all email to the tracker needs to go
through moderation (until I feel more confident that tracker spamming
can be prevented), and then the tracker gets email once an hour on a
cron job. (Eventually the tracker host will get a proper MX and that
delay will be eliminated, too.) Outgoing email should be immediate,
though. Your patience is greatly appreciated!
Second, if you happen to be one of the lucky contributers to have your
issue already posted to the tracker, your email address will probably
have already been registered, and you won't be able to register
immediately.
If this happens, please bear with us and do one of the following things:
- Get Roundup to send you a new password. Go to "Lost your login?" in
the Login block of the sidebar, and in the "Password reset request"
page enter your email address in the appropriate field, and click
"Request password reset". Roundup will send you mail telling you
your username (usually equal to the mailbox portion of your email
address) and a new password.
- Send email to me <stephen(a)xemacs.org> with your preferred user name,
full name, principal email address, (optional) alternate email
addresses, and a *temporary* password. I'll fix you up, then you
can log in and change your password. (If you don't do so within a
week, I'll disable that user.)
Once you have a user registered, you can change anything, including
your username and principal email address, from the "Your Details"
page linked from the "Hello, user" block of the sidebar. The only
caveat is that it's difficult to change your principal email address
to one of the alternate addresses or vice versa (there's a race
condition checking for previous use of the email; someday I'll fix
that).
A copy of the instructions for registration are available as the first
section of the User Guide available on the tracker.
Happy tracking!

question about ediff menus
16 years, 8 months
Michael Kifer
What is the right way for a package to install its items in a menu in XEmacs?
Ediff does it by loading ediff-hooks -- at least this is how it used to be.
That code in ediff-hooks.el predates the switch to the package system.
At that time the tools menu had an item "OO Browser", and ediff-hooks
requests to install its menus after that item. But now "OO Browser" may not
be installed (I do not know if it still exists), so I am not sure what
something like
(add-submenu
'("Tools") ediff-menu "OO-Browser...")
does nowadays.
In GNU Emacs this code is not used, since ediff-hook.el is dumped with
emacs. I am wondering if it is needed in XEmacs.

Dired patch for `i' - bounce between subdir line and its inserted listing
16 years, 8 months
Stephen J. Turnbull
This looks like a really good idea. If somebody would like to port it
to XEmacs, and coordinate with Drew Adams (to be polite, presumably he
has no objection) and Mike Sperber (the Dired package maintainer), I
would be much obliged.
I imagine it could amount to a bit of work as our dired package is
organized differently from Emacs's.
Steve
Drew Adams writes:

sh-script.el pairs
16 years, 8 months
Andreas Röhler
Herewith a patch against latest sh-script.el from
2008-02-10.
It conceives opening and closing of shell-programming
constructs as pairs.
Thus you may switch inside a if-fi, while-done etc. to
the closing or opening. Nesting is calculated.
Once the end or beginning is reached, you may jump as
known from `match-paren'. Keys are provided respective.
