How did you invoke `revert-buffer'? Through a menu as the backtrace
would tend to suggest?
ISTR work on this dialog breakage has been done since "fuki" was
released, but I don't see it in the ChangeLogs, so maybe not.

[Bug: 21.5-b28] browse-url fails to start default browser on MSWin
16 years, 7 months
Anders J. Munch
Dear Bug Team!
browse-url fails to start the default windows browser in 21.5b28.
M-x browse-url RET http://xemacs.org/ RET works as expected
in 21.4p19, launching an external browser, but not in 21.5b28.
regards, Anders

Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term. We include it so that bug reports work without
packages; we suggest that you choose and/or install one of the other mail
clients from packages if you're doing something other than M-x
report-xemacs-bug , or even if you are reporting bugs regularly.
To choose a package from those installed, click on "Options" ->
"Internet" -> "Compose Mail With ..." and decide on one from the
list. Gnus and VM are full-featured and have active user communities.
To disable this warning and stick with the old behavior, you can explicitly
initialize `mail-user-agent' to 'sendmail-user-agent .

Warning:
Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This
facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term.

Apple X11 - can we guarantee the resize handle is visible?
16 years, 7 months
Skip Montanaro
So I ssh'd into my machine at work from my Mac at home and ran
gnuclient -q
to connect to the XEmacs instance I left running over the weekend. I don't
recall what the font/font size settings were, but the resulting 80x63 frame
that popped up on my Mac extended beyond the bottom of the display. The
Mac's GUI places a single resize handle in the bottom right-hand corner of
each window. Since it was off-screen I was unable to interactively resize
the frame. After a bit of fussing with the font and font size menus I got
to a combination which was small enough to show the entire frame. After I
shrunk the window enough, a little more font/font size fiddling resulted in
a frame which displayed reasonably. It would have been nicer if when
creating the frame in the first place XEmacs had reduced the number of lines
in the frame so that the resulting X window was fully contained by the
display. Is this somehow possiable?
Thanks,
Skip Montanaro

Ah, thanks. Had forgotten about that trick.
I see that there is a create-frame-hook. From that I could call
frame-height and frame-width to get the desired height and width of the free
in lines and characters, respectively. I don't see how to get the same
values for the screen as a whole in those units though.

Getting tired of "[Failure] The Package Smoketest"
16 years, 8 months

Isn't it time we fix this?
Well, I've updated package-future.el to take account of Mike's most
recent tweaks (autoload-operators.el in xemacs-base). I made the
obvious change, it (somewhat surprisingly) worked the first time,
except for this crap in jde/lisp/auto-autoloads.el.
What happens, I think, is that the defcustom gets run at autoload
time, and that calls the set method, which calls
`tempo-define-template', which isn't defined.
I think this has to go.
;;;###autoload
(defcustom jde-gen-hashcode-method-template

Re: [Bug: 21.5-b28] performance on aix, cpu hog, no change with system update or use of ibm compiler xlc
16 years, 8 months
Thomas Mittelstädt
I built xemacs 21.4.19 with the following configure
CC=/opt/gcc-4.2.3/bin/gcc bash ./configure
--prefix=/usr/local/xemacs-21.4 --with-system-malloc
--package-path=/usr/local/lib/xemacs --pdump
and with 2 frames open, it consumes about 10-20% cpu, but interactive
handling is normal. No delays
when moving the mouse in compilation buffers or the like.
