Try (setq allow-remote-paths nil)
I believe you need efs installed for allow-remote-paths to work.
Cheers,
Sean

I think it is supposed to be /usr/local/share now.

OK, I didn't realize that, attaching the whole backtrace

Trying to build from source on Ubuntu 8.04 Linux

BTW, sending to xemacs-buildreports is likely to get you ignored;
moving to xemacs-beta.

Actually, those are just null macros. It was careless coding practice
to use #if instead of #ifdef, but it shouldn't be a problem.
The real problem is that the code hasn't been updated in quite a
while, and GCC has gotten pickier in the meantime. You could update
to current Mercurial head, or for now try applying this patch:

FAQ Q5.0.7: How can I use antialiased fonts under X11?
16 years, 1 month
Vladimir G. Ivanovic
A recent change to the XEmacs FAQ recommends setting the menubar font
when using XFT thusly:
#define MONO Mono
#define SANS Sans
#define PTSIZEM 12
#define PTSIZES 11
...
XEmacs.menubar.font: SANS:size=PTSIZES
This has no discernible effect as far as I can tell, but
XEmacs*xftFont: SANS:size=PTSIZES
does change the menubar font.
I configured XEmacs as suggested (./configure --enable-mule
--with-xft=emacs,menubars) and ran it with -vanilla.
Has anyone else gotten 'XEmacs.menubar.font' to work? If so, under
what conditions?
BTW, does anyone else feel as I do that the recommendation *in this
example* of using #defines obscures rather than clarifies what's going
on? I see no point in #defining Mono to be MONO (it's harder to read
uppercase) and the difference between PTSIZEM and PTSIZES is one
character (again in uppercase) out of seven. Since either 'M-x
replace-string' or 'M-x query-replace' work well, I don't see the need
to avoid "boring hand substitution", especially at the expense of
legibility. (Also note that "~.Xresources" should be "~/.Xresources".)

Ok, I just installed Mercurial (well, not *just*, last night actually:), and I
used this to check out:
hg clone http://hg.debian.org/hg/xemacs/xemacs-beta
And the same configure parameters to configure, I still got this error message:
gui-x.o: In function `popup_selection_callback':
/home/wweng/Projects/xemacs-beta/src/gui-x.c:310: undefined reference to
`x_focus_timestamp_really_sucks_fix_me_better'
menubar-x.o: In function `pre_activate_callback':
/home/wweng/Projects/xemacs-beta/src/menubar-x.c:515: undefined reference to
`x_focus_timestamp_really_sucks_fix_me_better'
Oh I "cvs co"ed the source into xemacs-21.5 directory and "hg clone"ed source
into xemacs-beta directory, so I can avoid the mistake that somehow I rebuilt
the source from CVS, not from Mercurial.
Thanks
Wei

Opening /very/ big files
16 years, 1 month
Didier Verna
Hi there,
somebody recently asked me if it was possible to have XEmacs only load
parts of files in buffers instead of loading the whole files. They have
files that can grow up to 1Go or more, which fills up their memory.
I don't think that's possible, but the idea (I guess) would be to have
some sort of a window on the file that moves around as the user
navigates in the file.
Any ideas or alternate solutions about this ?
