[Bug: 21.4.20] X server crash after replace-string command 17 years, 3 months

================================================================ Dear Bug Team! I am running xemacs 21.4.20 under RHEL5 on an x86_64 machine. Today, I opened a text file that was originally created with vim. In xemacs, vim-created files have characters at the end of every line. Before my upgrade from RHEL4 to RHEL5, I would run the following to clean up such files. M-x replace-string <ret> C-q C-m <ret> <ret> and then proceed. However, now, after I do the C-q C-m, there is a 2 second pause, my entire X session crashes, and I have to log in again and start over. Please help resolve remaining broken links in http://www.xemacs.org/ 17 years, 3 months

Hello All! I spent quite a bit of time recently to update or remove broken links in the XEmacs website. For the remaining failures listed in http://www.dk.xemacs.org/linklint/urlfail.html I could use your help (file updates daily). If you know about the fate of a failing host, or a replacement for o broken link, then please drop xemacs-beta a line. Stephen, what do you suggest for the http://calypso.tux.org/pipermail/ failures? They could probably be converted to text from actually failing links until they're fixed? ... or just pulled out while they're useless. I hope http://www.es.xemacs.org/ will just come back as it always has in the past. I have not heard from anyone. No problem with the delay. It's not like I'm paying for this stuff! The shell I am using is cmd.exe from \WINDOWS\system32\ on Windows XP SP2. There was more information in my original e-mail about what exactly happens: I start up a shell with M-x shell. The shell starts up on C drive. Then at the prompt I type "cd Prog" and then press the Tab key. The command is completed as "cd Program Files\" which is what I would expect. I press the Enter key. If I do a "dir" at this point I will see one of the subdirectories is XEmacs. At a prompt I type "cd XE" and press the Tab key. I get the error "No completions of XE". However if again I type "cd Prog" and press Tab it completes to "cd Program Files\" again. The shell buffer is no longer keeping track of the current directory it seems. In the "worst case" I've seen, performance is hideous[*] with Line and Column mode as a default when buffer sizes get Akebono sized. XEmacs with my .emacs is much, much faster. (I haven't done any benchmarking, I'm still trying to work out portable code so that FSFmacs doesn't corrupt the buffer). The area that we're still weak(est) at, performance wise, IMO, is startup time. At least it's the most noticeable. Do we still have anyone doing performance benchmarking? We used to have a test suite for that. load paths for xemacs cvs 17 years, 3 months

For the first time in a long time, I decided to try to build xemacs from CVS (from a couple of days ago), because I am tired of all my buffers not getting reverted properly when I use pcl-cvs or vc to checkin my files. The build goes just fine, but my load-path is missing lots of stuff. In particular, load-path doesn't have any of my installed packages. Has the installation directory hierarchy changed since 21.5.28? Or has the way load-path is computed changed? Sorry, if this is a known issue. I've been away from xemacs cvs for a while.
