Dialog Crash Error and 2.5.beta27
17 years, 5 months
Browder, Tom
I am using the XEmacs from F7 (2.5.beta27) and it has been reported that
the dialog crashing error has been corrected for 2.5.beta28.
Question: Any idea when it will make it into an F7 update rpm? Or
should I just compile from source (the error is really interrupting my
operaton, for instance I cannot successfully run compile from within
XEmacs)?
Thanks.
-Tom

XEmacs or Gentoo error?

I'm compiling 21.5.28 on an up-to-date AMD64 Gentoo system with
./configure --with-xemacs-compiler=g++
and I get this error:

Is this an XEmacs problem or a Gentoo problem?

statedir, lockdir?
17 years, 5 months
Ville Skyttä
Hi,
Is "statedir" still used for something in 21.4.20 or 21.5.28? I couldn't find
such a case in a quick grep session. Also, does 21.5.x still use a separate
lock dir of some kind for tracking whether some files are being edited?
Couldn't find evidence of that either.
If someone can confirm that statedir is no longer used, I can look into
providing a patch that gets rid of it.

I installed the <default> Cygwin originally. I then later chose <Install>
instead of <default>. It was a cywin issue. Now is all good!

Fedora 7 and XEmacs 21.5 beta: Can't Find Installed Packages
17 years, 5 months
Browder, Tom
I have an init.el file I've used for years and it caused problems when I
first started using XEmacs 21.5 beta as part of the Fedora 7
installation (I've installed the sumo and sumo-mule packages in the
usual place: /usr/lib/xemacs).
(NOTE: I'm not a lisp programmer; changes to my init.el are from cut
and paste and help from friendly xemacs users over the last 14 years.)
First, I found I had to modify several things in my init.el including
changing such lines as
(require 'dired)
to
(Init-safe-require 'dired)
But now I can't use dired because xemacs can't seem to find it!
The only reference to "load-path" I have are the following lines I've
had in my init.el ever since the "standard" directory containing it was
changed to "~/.xemacs":
(setq load-path
(append (list-nil "~/.xemacs)
load-path))
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Somebody here may have an idea, but while you're waiting, you should
try the Cygwin channels. This is almost certainly not an XEmacs-
specific issue.

I’m looking forward to using git for committing and getting these warnings
myself.

I used the Options/Fonts menu item to change the font to Courier, save
options, quit and restarted. The splash screen still comes up with
non-Courier fonts, but files I load do come up with Courier.
Even so, I'd still like advice on how to change the font before
deployment instead of having to have every developer have to make this
change locally.

64-unclean code in eval.c
17 years, 5 months
Stephen J. Turnbull
This code in eval.c at l. 6016 gets flagged as 64-bit unsafe
(specifically on amd64 pointers and EMACS_INTs are 64 bits, while ints
are 32 bits). In fact, in C++ it's an error. Anybody know what
should be happening here? I would assume that all C integers that are
visible to Lisp are EMACS_INTs, but if there not changing the
declaration of val to EMACS_INT below would be a disaster.
static Lisp_Object
restore_int (Lisp_Object cons)
{
Lisp_Object opaque = XCAR (cons);
Lisp_Object lval = XCDR (cons);
int *addr = (int *) get_opaque_ptr (opaque);
int val;
if (INTP (lval))
val = XINT (lval);
else
{
val = (int) get_opaque_ptr (lval);
free_opaque_ptr (lval);
}
*addr = val;
free_opaque_ptr (opaque);
free_cons (cons);
return Qnil;
}
