Request For Feature - `read-string-maybe-box' 20 years, 10 months

I'd like to call `read-string' and have it prompt for input via a dialog box if it was invoked from a rat event. Same for `read-number'. make-category & define-category gaffes 20 years, 10 months

Both lisp/mule/thai-util.el and lisp/mule/lao-util.el call the nonexistent function make-category-table. It looks like the call ought to be (copy-category-table nil). Both files also call define-category with 3 arguments, but it only takes 2. I think those calls should be I think that thai-util.el should start like this: (defconst thai-category-table (copy-category-table nil)) (with-category-table thai-category-table (define-category ?c "Thai consonant") (define-category ?v "Thai upper/lower vowel") (define-category ?t "Thai tone")) instead of like this: (defconst thai-category-table (make-category-table)) (define-category ?c "Thai consonant" thai-category-table) (define-category ?v "Thai upper/lower vowel" thai-category-table) (define-category ?t "Thai tone" thai-category-table) and a similar change needs to be made for lao-util.el. Does that look right? Also, lisp/mule/ethio-util.el is calling decompose-composite-char, which is eliciting an obsolete function warning from the byte compiler. mapping of C-z 20 years, 10 months

Hi The change of mapping of C-z from suspend-or-iconify-emacs to zap-up-to-char, in XEmacs 21.5.16 in my opinion, is a nasty surprise. I am used to pressing C-z and then continue typing on the terminal hidden below XEmacs. When I did that the first time on 21.5.16 I lost a bunch of data. Sure, I could undo it, but it took me a while to realize what happened. I just wanted to say that I am not happy with this change and I hope changing such benign mappings into destructive ones went through some discussion and was done for a good reason and not just committed on a whim. kaarthik

Call for Discussion: Changing keymap [Take `zap-up-to-char' off `C-z'] 20 years, 10 months

QUERY SY> Putting `zap-up-to-char' on a long-standing non-destructive SY> keybinding should never have happened. I disagree as a matter of policy. There is no way to improve keymappings if we can't even beta test them because of "backward compatibility." Surprising and destructive, yes. So are lots of things in beta tests, although normally they're not intentional. I'm actually neutral on the patch itself, but before the patch is discussed I think this is a policy issue that should be hashed out every so often. The last time was several years ago, and the composition of the active board has changed dramatically since then. A bug in wid-edit? 20 years, 10 months

Why doesn't this work? (widget-create 'push-button :help-echo "A bogus button that does nothing" "Push Me") Well, it does really, but not in a nice way. The problem is the `:help-echo'. For me, with Athena NeXtaw widgets, I can only see the help echo string if the mouse pointer is on the very edge of the button.
