Sync up to FSF 21.3.50. Remove bogus use of get-window-with-predicate.
Add edebug-error-expected in an attempt to catch internal errors in
edebug. (Previously, an error would simply result in nothing happening,
with no indication that such an error had occurred.) When an internal
error happens, display a message indicating this and enter the
(standard) debugger.

Major overhaul. This version should be faster than the old one,
and in addition has the major new feature of "deferred correct
fontification", as described below. Sync up most stuff to the
latest lazy-lock in FSF 21.2. Integrate some stuff from jit-lock,
because our model is closer to jit-lock's than to FSF/lazy-lock's.
Speed it up in various ways, e.g. by removing the hack that binds
font-lock-beginning-of-syntax-function to nil, thereby insuring
horrible behavior at the end of a file. Use GUARANTEE argument to
window-end to ensure we get an accurate idea of what's on the
screen, and therefore we know with confidence whether the screen
is going to be scrolled by redisplay, and can much better optimize
our checks to see whether we need to do anything. The biggest
user-level difference has to do with lazy-lock-defer-contextually,
which, if non-nil, implements a system whereby after a change
lazy-lock will update everything from the change point to the
bottom of the screen (and further, once you display the areas
farther down), after an idle-delay of (currently) 0.25 seconds.
Insert a comment-begin (/*) in C, for example, and you'll see
*all* the text afterwards, down to the bottom of the screen,
become colored like a comment unless a comment-end intervenes.

[Bug: 21.4.12] crash when X-display went away

Dear Bug Team!
I ran xemacs and gnuserv.
I then ran gnuclient (with DISPLAY set to a different
display than the one under which xemacs was run)
While gnuclient was running, I killed its X-display
(the X-display was supplied by goglobal). xemacs got a segv.
I used to run 21.4.8 and in this case of the X-display dying, xemacs
would go into a compute loop and I would have to kill it by hand.
I saw in the 21.4.10 release notes that this bug was called the
Energizer Bunny Bug and that it was fixed.
I suppose crashing immediately is an improvement, :-)
but it sure would be nice if xemacs just kept running (normally, not
like the bunny) and would accept new gnuclient connections.
Here is the dump. This shows a bus error but I believe
I have also seen a segv crash.

Dear Bug Team!
I am have a recurring problem with xemacs interpreting "z" as "M-z",
and performing the zap-to-char operation. At least 50% of the time
when I am typing a word with a "z" in it, this gets interpreted as
"M-z", and if I am typing fast, the result is a zap-to-char. For
example, I am developing code that uses the variable name "size", and
many times when I type in s-i-z-e,, what I get is s-i, then deletion
to the next "e". This is not 100% repeatable, but I know that it is
not a "fat fingers" problem, because I have on numerous occasions
fixed the problem by doing "C-x u", then typed "z", slowly, only to
see "zap-to-char" appear in the mode line. This is very annoying!

CVS appears down from the three routes I have to the internet.
All three appear to fail at aalborg1.icbackbones.darenet.dk (130.225.242.7).
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

I downloaded 21.4.11, and untarred it in / for cygwin. Attached is the ouput of ./configure and make. Both were ran without any switches. I have make-d any big package before, so I didn't expect an thing to happen. I have Cygwin 2.340.2.5, Windows XP Home. I wasn't doing anything at that time, although after that, I read README, INSTALL and PROBLEMS with emacs. I didn't install xemacs for Windows as I wanted a better editor than emacs for X Windows System. Your help is appreciated.

I think there is a "doc bug" in the docstring of `load-path'.
The "News" (`C-h n') say:

Several bugs in locate-file have been fixed, most notably its failure
to call expand-file-name on elements of PATH-LIST. Because of that
elements of load-path of the form "~/..." used to not work.
locate-file is now guaranteed to expand files during its course of
operation.

But the docstring of the variable `load-path' (still) says:

Note that the elements of this list *may not* begin with "~", so you must
call `expand-file-name' on them before adding them to this list.

I tested it, entries in load-path that start with `~' work. So I think
the quoted paragraph of the docstring is hyperfluid.
Please excuse me if you already fixed this, my XEmacsen are not
really up-to-date.

Is the CVS server down? I haven't been able to update after the 18 April
version. My computer just waits for a connection when I try to connect.
The only error that I get is "cvs [checkout aborted]: received interrupt"
when I hit the interrupt key.
