When I put the cursor at the end of this lisp code and run M-x
eval-last-sexp, it says, "b".

The info documentation for match-string says, "This function returns,
as a string, the text matched in the last search or match operation.
...if that subexpression didn't match anything, the value is `nil'"
The quote says it looks at the *last* operation. The last operation
in the above lisp code is the last call to string-match. That
particular call didn't match anything. The quote above says that in
that case, the value is nil. Therefore I think that match-string
should return nil, and since progn returns whatever the last
expression returns, then I think the overall return value of the
entire lisp code above should be nil. But instead it returns "b".

Several points of interest WRT AUC TeX and preview-latex

Hello,
as you probably have noticed, AUC TeX's maintainer has changed and
the development site has moved to
<URL:http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/auctex>. The currently
released stable version is 11.13, the current beta version is 11.14
(which contains another important fix for multi-directory projects).
In the archives for this list, I have dug up a reference to an
interaction problem of preview-latex with other XEmacs packages such
as Gnus. This bug has been fixed starting with preview-latex 0.7.5.
The current release of preview-latex is 0.7.7.
It is a shame that XEmacs still ships with the appallingly outdated
AUC TeX 10.0g: a lot of TeX packages have gained support in the mean
time, and a lot of bugs have been fixed.
We get frequent complaints from AUC TeX users both on the auc-tex and
the preview-latex related discussion lists.
Additionally, it would be nice if preview-latex was also offered as
part of the normal package repositories. It is already organized as an
XEmacs package except for additional TeX styles. Those could
probably be put into their own subdirectory, and that could be added
with
(setenv "TEXINPUTS" (concat "~/package-directory/preview-tex-files:"
(getenv "TEXINPUTS)))
into TeX's usual search path in case the user does not want to add
those files generally into his local TeX styles.

Dear Bug Team!
The docs for set-frame-position (i.e., C-h f set-frame-position) say
that negative args are interpreted as counting from the right or
bottom, respectively. In fact, the args appear to be interpreted as
counting from the upper-left corner of the screen, regardless of sign.
What I did:
1. Invoked xemacs with -vanilla.
2. Using the mouse, dragged the frame to the middle of the screen.
3. In the *scratch* buffer, typed and evaluated:
(set-frame-position (selected-frame) -1 0)
The frame jumped to the upper-left corner of the screen. (It should
have jumped to the upper right, because of the negative XOFFSET.)
Further experimentation, with larger negative args, shows that I can
indeed make the frame jump partly off the screen, and that YOFFSET has
the same problem as XOFFSET.
