Infact, the default value of `font-lock-auto-fontify' is t, but that doesn't do anything. It seems the easiest way for a newbie to get it is to turn it off then back on again from the Options menu then save that customization. They would have to be a total headbanger or completely desperate to try that. Perhaps the appropriate defcustoms should have :set methods or :requires or something. Maybe this is important enough to special case in startup.el. But it is galling that a clued-up user will take a squizz whether "Automatic Syntax Highlighting" is on according to the Options menu checkbox and via C-h v font-lock-auto-fontify or M-x customize-variable font-lock-auto-fontify and not realise he is being lied to. -- John Paul Wallington

Looking for XEmacs developer to join mh-e 22 years, 2 months

Hello XEmacs developers (and perhaps power users), XEmacs ships with an old version of mh-e, and we collectively need to fix that. :-) The best solution is for an XEmacs developer (or a XEmacs power user who knows elisp and XEmacs particulars) who uses mh-e to join us, the mh-e crew, in developing mh-e. Such a person would make sure the CVS version works correctly on XEmacs, and would patch as required and tell us what we're doing wrong. There are a few odd jobs, such as making up suitable icons for the XEmacs toolbar. This person would also need to sign the FSF copyright papers. Are you such a person? If we can't find such a person, one of the current mh-e developers will be selected at random for the job of packaging mh-e for XEmacs. I'm kidding! One of the mh-e developers will volunteer, possibly me. But I'd prefer to have an XEmacs expert do it. Thanks! Please CC mh-e-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net with your replies! gnuserv, 2 windows and external entities 22 years, 2 months

Hi xemacs wizards, I have 3 small problems to solve: 1) gnuserv is not working. When I type 'gnuserv filename' it just waits forever (xemacs IS running). I browsed through environment->gnuserv with no clear ideas, 2) when I start xemacs with a few files (xemacs file1 file2 file3) it loads them all, but splits the frame into TWO windows (no matter how many files I load). How can I disable this? (I wanto have only one window) 3) No matter what I set as sgml-warn* and sgml-ignore I get "External entity html not found" on files with no fully correct structure. Can I get rid of it? (I know some files are a bit wrong) please, comment on this. thank you very much dominique

pcl-cvs and precommit scripts 22 years, 2 months

One project I work on uses a precommit CVS script to allow for bugID tracking as part of every commit. When I say "allow" I mean it requires us to enter either "new" or a bugID as part of every commit. When folks do their commits via the commandline, they are prompted for a bugID, and if none is given some script is run that [tells them possible bugIDs or lets them manually nose around the bugs database]. While I have no desire (at the moment) to interface with the script, I would like to find a way to pass the bugID info from pcl-cvs. Any ideas? I suspect that if all else fails I could make sure the commit message begins with <BugID: ...> and have the precommit script grab the info from there. In this case, is there an easy way to customize cvs-mode-changelog-commit and cvs-mode-commit so that the generated log message buffer begins with "BugID: "? H

After bringing up VM on my INBOX, I visited my SENT folder by using the "Visit" button in the VM toolbar on the left and then using my mouse to pick the SENT folder. VM, by default, visits folders in a new frame in XEmacs (that's not the default in Emacs). In this case, the visit of INBOX looked fine in the new folder, but the visit of SENT produced a very weird looking frame! The frame appeared to look like a TV screen in which VM tried to create another frame and that this inside frame did not finish being drawn. It also seemed that VM tried to signal some problem by ringing the bell. NOTE: this problem only appears when using the VM "Visit" folder button and not when using the 'v' key.
