XEmacs v21.5.4 process hangs after CDE logout

Dear Bug Team!
After logging out of CDE with XEmacs 21.4.5 still running, the XEmacs
process keeps running, and consumes ~49% of CPU.
Upon the next login, the process must be manually killed. This does not
happen for any other CDE proceses (such as terminal windows). It also
doesn't happen with XEmacs 20.4 that came with Solaris. I can reproduce it
in XEmacs 21.4.5, 21.4.8 and 21.5.8, on both hp and sun. This problem ocurrs
when I access unix through exceed 6.2.0.14 under NT4.00.1381. It does not
happen when physically logged into the unix box. By redirecting stderr to a
file, I get the following error message:
xemacs: Fatal I/O Error 131 (Connection reset by peer) on display connection
"dtwh192b.eai.com:0.0"
after 1646 requests (1646 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
I fixed this problem with a mod to function x_IO_handler in file device-x.c.
This is an adaptation of a fix suggested by Chris van Engelen in
comp.emacs.xemacs. See attached file "cve_post.txt".
In the suggested fix, the code traps the broken pipe error (EPIPE, 32 on
sun). In my fix, I added the connection reset error (ECONNRESET, 131 on
sun). See attached file xio_handler_21.4.5_modified.c.
I found similar logic in v20.4 of device-x.c, but not in v21.5.4. So,
perhaps there is a more appropriate place or technique in the v21 codes to
handle the connection reset error.

Dear Bug Team!
In dired mode, the up/down cursor key was putting the cursor at the
start of each line, instead of at the filename. Pressing ENTER (even
when I manually positioned the cursor to the start of the filename
part) resulted in the error 'No file on line'.
For reasons unknown to me, the 'ls -l' command is outputting file mod
times with dates formatted as 'mm-dd' (eg 08-23), instead of the usual
'MMM dd' (eg Aug 23).
Took me a few hours to discover that this was why dired was failing.
Example output from my system's 'ls -s' follows:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 08-18 00:14 bin
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 08-18 00:14 cgi-bin
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 08-18 01:33 conf
After some study of dired.el, I found the regexp for matching
filenames in dired listings, 'dired-re-month-and-time'.
My fix is a bit yuck, but it works. Should be usable as a starting
point for an official xemacs package maintainer to do it right.
Hack dired.el, near line 791 (where dired-re-month-and-time gets set)
Change
(date-month (concat "\\(" date " " month "\\)")))
to:
(date-month (concat "\\(" date " " month "\\)"))
(date-date (concat "\\(" date "\-" date "\\)")))
Then, delete dired.elc (or byte-recompile dired.el)
After restarting Xemacs, dired should then work nicely!

Dear Bug Team!
I start Xemacs from the command line with no command line switches. I
go to "Options --> Edit Faces" and the program promptly crashes. Here
is the output I received after the crash:
Fatal error (11).

Use `M-x recover-session' to recover them.
If you have access to the PROBLEMS file that came with your
version of XEmacs, please check to see if your crash is described
there, as there may be a workaround available.
Otherwise, please report this bug by running the send-pr
script included with XEmacs, or selecting `Send Bug Report'
from the help menu.
As a last resort send ordinary email to `crashes(a)xemacs.org'.
*MAKE SURE* to include the information in the command
M-x describe-installation.
If at all possible, *please* try to obtain a C stack backtrace;
it will help us immensely in determining what went wrong.
To do this, locate the core file that was produced as a result
of this crash (it's usually called `core' and is located in the
directory in which you started the editor, or maybe in your home
directory), and type
gdb /usr/local/bin/xemacs core
then type `where' when the debugger prompt comes up.

you reported some problems with the ps-print package included in the
latest XEmacs Sumo tarball, could you check out ps-print 1.07 and see if
it fixes the problems you found?
ps-print 1.07 is currently available in pre-releases, and it'll move to
stable packages directory soon. We're also preparing to roll a new sumo
tarball.

(I've had to email this manually since several features, such
as sending the bug report and updating packages, don't work
properly under Windows.)
There seems to be an undesirable interaction between cc-mode and
the psgml package. When the psgml package is loaded cc-mode no
longer highlights C++ files correctly.
