Dear Bug Team!
I use XEmacs and JDEE (see http://jdee.sunsite.dk/) to edit Java.
Works fine. When I upgraded from XEmacs 21.5.6 to 21.5.8, I had
problems and had to downgrade. with 21.5.8, whenever I opened a .java
file, JDE would go into an infinite loop while "fontifying". The
curser would flash the wristwatch symbol and never stop.
I don't mean to imply that XEmacs 21.5.8 has a new bug, but it works
on 21.5.6, so something changed and I thouc]ght you should know.

Dear Bug Team!
After starting Xemacs, the menu entry "Options, Advanced(Customize),
Emacs,
Packages" is empty. However, after doing the two menus "Tools, Packages,
Add Download Site" and "Tools, Packages, List and Install" the former menu
"Options, Advanced(Customize), Emacs, Packages" is populated correctly. This
process is required each time Xemacs starts.
My XP system is an upgrade from NT. Afterwards, xemacs-21.4.6.exe
installed Xemacs. Then, setup.exe upgraded to xemacs-21.4.8.

cygwin-xemacs sometimes hangs in compile with latest cygwin

Hi,
I'm using the latest cygwin and the latest xemacs-cygwin32.
One time out of about five, when I start a compilation in cygwin-xemacs
(M-x compile) the subprocess is started, but no output from the
subprocess appears in the compilation buffer (the subprocess is a shell
script (ant) that starts a dos executable (java)). I observe the same
behaviour sometimes when doign a "M-x grep". The subprocess runs,
though very slowly because xemacs uses nearly 100% of the CPU time
(polling for results?). This behaviour is experienced by all collegues
that use xemacs-cygwin as well.
The bug appeared when I upgraded cygwin in mid-December 2001. I send
this bug report then, but never got a response. Not being experienced
with the windows API, I cannot debug this further (something I usually
try before reporting bugs). However, obviously this bug is "genuine" as
it does not disappear as bug fixes are made to cygwin/xemacs. So I
decided to report it again.

Dear Bug Team!
I noticed that xemacs freezes when invoking info (M-x-info) being
unable to gunzip bash.info.gz in /usr/share/info.
Worked fine when invoked from the Help menu (as long as I didn't
ask it to access the top node).
After I gunzipped all the files in /usr/local/share/info it works
alright.
This did not happen with 21.5-b7!
It happens both in the gt-version and the no-gtk version, so
something has changed (it does not necessarly hang i=on the first
gzipped file).
I was wondering why xemacs does not make the gzipped format for
info files standard?
Yes, I know, standalone info does not work with gzipped files, but
some of us old-timers still feel like wasting 20 MB o diskspace is
a sin.

Tramp problems

I've noticed recently that after using tramp, every time I try to open
a top level dir e.g. C-c C-f /etc, I get "tramp waiting for...". This
is very annoying!
I can't say for sure if this behaviour is really new, since I only use
tramp now and then.

thanks for reporting the details about this problem!
I sent a message to xemacs-beta earlier today about hardware problems
at SunSITE.dk (where our CVS repository lives).
Please don't commit until further notice.
It's the commit mails and the commit database updates which failed.
We'll have to check things once SunSITE.dk is back for good.
