Hey all,
Does the external widget work at all? If it does, is there some example
code somewhere that I can use to utilize it (Xlib code prefered)?
I know about the external widget tests in the
xemacs/etc/tests/external-widget, I got it to build, but I don't see an
xemacs frame.

How do I find out what my current default font setting is? I haven't
set it within emacs. If I do Options/edit faces and look for default,
it doesn't say anything about the font name.

Dear Bug Team!
I was trying to write a regexp to find the next left parentheses not
in a comment. The following regexp does the job:
(re-search-forward "[^(;\n]*\\(\\(;.*\\)?\n[^(;\n]*\\)*(")
When I tried to use the shy grouping operator instead, ie.
(re-search-forward "[^(;\n]*\\(?:\\(?:;.*\\)?\n[^(;\n]*\\)*(")
it does not work. After playing around, the following is a simpler
regexp that shows the same behaviour
(re-search-forward ".*\\(\n.*\\)*") ;; goes to end of buffer
(re-search-forward ".*\\(?:\n.*\\)*") ;; goes to end of line
Experimenting further, it seems that having the `*' suffix
operator as the last element in a shy group, and again applying
the `*' operator to the group, is the construct that is problematic,
ie. \(?:<foobar>*\)*

Read-only extents modified during undo -- bug?

I've come across a strange XEmacs behavior, but I'm not sure if it qualifies
as a bug. Here's how to reproduce it:
Put this code into an empty scratch buffer, and execute it:

The first "This is..." should be highlighted and read-only.
Now, delete the third character of the buffer (the space after the ";;"), and
then immediately do a C-/ to undo the change. The read-only extent now covers
that whitespace character that it didn't used to cover!
This would seem to be a bug, since one might expect a read-only extent in a
buffer to be unchangable... but my intuition tells me that in order to
implement undo in a way that makes it behave as I want it to behave would be
nontrivial, since you'd have to store more information in the undo-list than
is currently stored (in order to remember the state of extents in the regions
that get edited).
Does anybody know the official verdict on this matter?

Dear Bug Team!
With the latest packages I have the following dependency problems:
1. I can't install lookup. Is this because it requires "lookup" which
is provided by itself? If I try to install lookup, it remains
uninstalled, according to the package list, and further, I get an
error similar to the one below about not being able to autoload
"mule". I have to reinstall mule-base to stop this.
2. I can't install latin-unity. If I do, I get the warning
(1) (warning/warning) Autoload error in: /home/rrt/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages/lisp/latin-unity/auto-autoloads:
Symbol's function definition is void: find-charset
when I start XEmacs. Where is this function supposed to come from?
I see it's mentioned in only two files, mule-ucs/undefine.elc and
w3-display.

How can I save a single customized variable in custom-file?

(customize-set-variable symbol (symbol-value symbol))
and
(custom-group-save custom-type))
both save not only the current symbol or widget but all other
customized variables as well.
Is there a way to only save that one symbol or widget?

For xemacs-21.5.
The patch makes `custom' save variables and faces in alphabetic order. It also
improves custom-save-... to work about 2-3 times faster.
Thanks to Adrian, he put the patch under thorough testing. Still it would be
greate if someone try it in xemacs-21.5.
