It took me a little bit to figure out that the non-MULE stuff wasn't working yet (I'm assuming? "file-coding.c" doesn't without MULE enabled.), it built and seems to run fine under Windows 2000. building gnuclient/gnuserv natively 23 years, 7 months

I hate to bring up this old chestnut, but I all of a sudden I need gnuclient, and trying to run an executable copied from some other distribution just gives me the heebie-jeebies. So I'm trying to do the right thing and build them natively using VC5. After some quick but crude code-surgery (see below), I can compile, BUT I CAN'T LINK! I've tried adding random libraries to the link path, but none seem to make any difference. I'm sure this problem has been solved before. Any hints? Italic fonts show up as small UNitalic fonts 23 years, 7 months

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.4 (patch 3) "Academic Rigor" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux) of Tue Jul 10 2001 on eos.redmond.cacheflow.com configured using `configure --prefix=/home/david.karr/local' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I'm on Redhat 7.1, uname reports "2.2.17-8". I'm displaying on Win2k, using ReflectionX. This is probably just some sort of weird ReflectionX issue, but I don't understand what is going on here. All my faces that are supposed to be mapped to italic fonts show up in this little UNitalic font. For instance, the one that is causing me the most trouble, "shell-output-face", says the font is "-*-courier-medium-i-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*". The output in my shell buffer is clearly not an italic font. My shell-prompt-face is fine, because that's not an italic font. I tried running "xfontsel", and noticed something curious. After I set "slant" to "i", in the options for the "family" setting, "courier" is grayed out. So, I guess from this that the "courier" family can't give me italics. So, I noticed that "lucida" is not grayed out, so I tried that. I tried going into "Options"->"Edit Faces", found "Shell Output Face" (and the sample showed up in the little unitalic font). I clicked on the arrow button to expand it. I noticed that "Font Family" was unchecked, so I checked it and typed "lucida" into the text box and pressed Return twice. Then at the top of the buffer, I clicked "Set", "Save", and then "Done". I tried redisplaying my shell buffer, and deleting it and recreating it, but it still had the small unitalic font. I then did "apropos face", grepped for "shell-output-face", put my cursor on it and pressed Return. The "Face" sample still had the small unitalic font, and the "Font:" field was "-*-courier-medium-i-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*". smtpmail problems 23 years, 7 months

Hello, I am using smtpmail.el to use my ISP's SMTP server to send e-mail (the same way Netscape sends e-mail with an SMTP host) from VM under XEmacs. I am on an OpenBSD 2.9-current host. I have XEmacs 21.5 (beta2) and the latest sumo tarball. The error I am constantly seeing is: Network error: connection failed, "Address already in use", "mail.ispdomain", "SMTP" So, I realize this error is probably outside the realm of smtpmail.el (unlike the "Sending failed; SMTP protocol error" messages I have seen twice). What strikes me as weird is that at the exact same time a perl script can connect just fine to the SMTP server and work. The error occurs when I am only trying to send with smtpmail.el. My smtpmail setup looks like so (if you see something glaring in here please feel free to tell me): (setq send-mail-function 'smtpmail-send-it) ; if you use `mail' (setq smtpmail-default-smtp-server "mail.optonline.net") (setq smtpmail-local-domain nil) (setq smtpmail-smtp-service "smtp") (load-library "smtpmail") (setq smtpmail-code-conv-from nil) (setq user-full-name "Dan Weeks") (setq smtpmail-auth-credentials '(("mail.ispdomain" 25 "username" "password"))) I was wondering if anyone has any pointers on where to look for a possible fix or explaination. If there are maybe some pointers that i can investigate further on my own would be great. Also, if anyone knows of a good stand-alone program that works with VM/XEmacs and can contact and use an SMTP server like smtpmail.el does I will gladly take the information.
