Status of "run-at-time" and Cygwin-XEmacs with EFS? 23 years, 9 months

I'm sorry, but I haven't tried the beta yet, so I don't know whether there is any change in these issues, but since I've never gotten any response from asking about these issues in the normal channels, I thought I would ask here. I wanted to know if anyone is aware of any change in status of two issues that concern me. It's not clear to me whether these issues are really known, even though I reported them. The first is that "run-at-time" doesn't work. It fails with a stack trace, apparently because of a slight incompatibility between the timer functions between Emacs and XEmacs. The second issue is that EFS in Cygwin-XEmacs is unusable, probably due to the fact that I am set to Unix text file mode. When I try to visit an exact path to an existing file on a remote system (Solaris), it seems to think the file is nonexistent, so it just gives me an empty buffer. When I try to do completion on a partial path, it gives me a completion buffer where all the elements end with "^M". If I complete with one of those elements, it puts the "^M" into the path in the minibuffer. If I finally select that element, it also essentially says it doesn't exist, but this gives me a stack trace with the following first line: Signaling: (ftp-error "Opening input file:" "FTP Error: /dkarr＠cheetos:/home/dkarr/.profile not arrived or readable") If the element I select is a directory, I can complete that in the minibuffer, and then try to complete from that, so I can get the files in that directory in the completion buffer. I can continue in this way, as long as I only ever use directory names, not files. I reported this to the EFS list, and I wrote a note about it in one of the normal XEmacs lists. I know there's a great deal of work necessary to get the new release out, I'm just looking for some sort of acknowledgement or status on these issues. -- =================================================================== David M. 21.2.44 - mswindows font support issues 23 years, 9 months

[Apologies for crossposting to -beta and -nt, I'm not sure where this will find the most receptive audience, but it's clearly a Windows-specific issue...] I've been having problems trying to get 21.2.44 on Windows 2000 (native build) to display my 'favourite' 6x13 font (which happens to come with my Exceed installation). I've been though some of this before with 20.x versions on Windows, but this time I seem to have hit a brick wall (I think that in the past all I needed to do was tweak the font description string correctly). Note that this font works fine with (for example) Notepad and other 'native' apps. Also note that I have the same problem with 21.1.13, although I haven't dug around enough to find out if the stuff below would apply to 21.1.x as well. Here's what I've done: 1) Execute (list-fonts "") and note that the font I'm expecting to see isn't there - I'm looking for an entry like "6x13::10::Western" or similar. 2) Notice that there are a bunch of entries which are just "Western" which seems like the wrong thing. Poke around in object-msw.c and notice this at line 1061: for (i=0; i<countof (charset_map); i++) if (lpelfe->elfLogFont.lfCharSet == charset_map[i].value) { strcat (fontname, charset_map[i].name); break; } if (i==countof (charset_map)) strcpy (fontname, charset_map[0].name); Surely this last line should be: strcat (fontname, charset_map[0].name); 3) Make this change and rebuild. Now I _do_ get "6x13::10::Western" in the results of (list-fonts ""). Try to ignore naggy worry about the fact that the charset for this font wasn't found in charset_map... 4) Try (set-face-font 'default "6x13::10::Western"). I just get Courier New instead. Boo, hiss. 5) Now go digging in font.el and msw-faces.el etc. Notice that mswindows-font-regexp and font-mswindows-font-regexp (why do we need both?) disallow the 'name' part of a font from containing numbers. Think that I must have it cracked now, fix msw-faces.el and font.el - and notice that now if I do (mswindows-font-create-object "6x13::10::Western") I get 'correct' results like: [:family ("6x13") :weight : :style 0 :size "10pt" :registry nil :encoding "Western"] 6) Try set-face-font again, and I still get stuck with Courier. Start to lose hope.... 6a) Dig around some more in the debugger, note that functions like initialise_font_instance() in objects-msw.c _seem_ to be succeeding for my font spec "6x13::10::Western". 6b) Wonder some more about the character set issue. Decide to 'ask the audience' (or is this more a case of 'phoning a friend'?) So, does anyone out there have an idea of what could be going wrong here. I think that regardless of my specific font issue, there's a patch here fixing the strcpy/strcat issue and the problems with the -font-regexp's, but I would like to get to the bottom of what is going wrong here first. XSLT-process minor mode added to xemacs-packages 23 years, 9 months

Hi Steve, I've just checked-in the repository the 1.0 version of the XSLT-process package for XEmacs. I've setup a makefile that builds only the elisp files, without trying to compile the Java classes. This minor mode depends on beanshell.el from JDE. However the JDE version is very old (2.1.9) and the functionality required from beanshell.el by XSLT-process is not present. I talked to Paul Kinnucan, JDE's author, about upgrading JDE to a newer version but he seems to be very busy right now to be able to work on this. I was thinking as an intermediate solution we can only upgrade the beanshell.el file inside JDE with a newer version, it looks like there are no other dependencies. Of course, the nicest thing would be for somebody to do the upgrade to a newer version of JDE. One issue I found while writing the makefile was that in the REQUIRES variable you not only have to put the package you depend on, but also all the packages that package depends on. Am I missing something? If this is the case I believe we have a problem, because changing one dependency in a base package requires updates on all the depending packages. Regards, Ovidiu

[ANNOUNCE] XSLT-process 1.2 available 23 years, 9 months

XSLT-process is a minor mode for (X)Emacs that allows you to invoke an XSLT processor of choice on a buffer, displaying the result in an additional buffer. Currently supported processors include Xalan 1.x, and Saxon 5.x and 6.x. Cocoon 1.8.x, an XML publishing framework, is also supported through its command line interface. Support for other Java XSLT processors could be added easily. The TrAX interface caches the XSLT stylesheets in the processor driver in a compiled form, so the speed of the processing is increased. * The mode is now running with GNU Emacs on Windows NT/2000, thanks to Allan Erskine (mailto:a.erskine＠cs.ucl.ac.uk) for figuring out the issues * Changed again the keyboard binding, this time to `C-c C-x C-v', as `C-M-x' doesn't work on Windows systems. * The documentation has been reorganized a little bit to be more logical.
